“First rate theater in a very cozy setting”
Reviewed 6 August 2013

This theater has gained some serious traction in San Diego. It started as a virtual unknown in another location. It has grown into this intimate and cozy theater setting. The cast are amazing. They have a very interesting and eclectic take on some standby performances as well as innovative runs of less known or less utilized plays.

If you live in San Diego or are just visiting you must go see a play here. It is a great experience.

“Excellent theater in an intimate space”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

We have season tickets to Cygnet and they produce excellent shows (on a shoestring budget) in a small theater in Old Town. there is not a bad seat in the place.

“Broken Hearted to Have Moved Away”
Reviewed 30 June 2013

When we lived in La Jolla CA we fell in love with the Cygnet Theater (when it was in a hole in the wall location in a small strip mall). When the Cygnet moved to a "real" theater in Old Town San Diego, a great theater became even better. When we moved back home to our place in Louisiana, leaving behind the Cygnet Theater was hard (just about as hard as leaving the great weather and the year-round boogie boarding). We recently returned for a visit to the San Diego area as we headed to Hawaii for a short vacation. We went back to the Cygnet Theater and saw "Shakespeare's R&J" - a very interesting, creative, "new look" at "Romeo and Juliet." The four young performers were fantastic and the staging and direction were, as always, outstanding. Any lucky people living within driving distance to Old Town and the Cygnet Theater, who do not attend at least some shows there, are missing a theatrical treasure. There is no shortage of great theater in the San Diego and North Coast area, and we truly enjoyed several other great theaters there, but the Cygnet Theater Company remains our favorite. I think it is fair to say, the Cygnet rivals some of the great theaters in D.C. and the D.C. area (and that is saying a lot).

“A Nice Theatre To See A Show”
Reviewed 1 June 2013

We were far more impressed with the Theatre than the production we saw. As far as the production, which was a contemporary version of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, sorry but a little 'out there' for our tastes (i.e. I don't know if the theme would appeal to all segments of the general public, and parental guidance is recommended). But the Theatre itself -- very cute, with good views from all seats due to its petite size. And, now they have added a new outdoor patio/deck, where you can enjoy pre-theatre or intermission drinks and snacks, in a comfortable setting.
