“Not Good for a W Brand”
Reviewed 6 May 2012

Valet took so long to get the car when I checked in. The room smelled like smoke. The breakfast menu is overpriced for the quality of the food served. The pool "scene" is not even close to what I am use to in Los Angeles. The property is far cry from the W in Westwood and Hollywood.

Room Tip: Property is not even close to what you get elsewhere under the W brand.

The beach restaurant's food is amazing! Service is impeccable and not snooty for such a top rate hotel and I've stayed all over the world. People here seem to genuinely want to please their guests. ESP the front desk staff and Spiro at the Beach rooftop bar. The whatever whenever service took care of everything we asked for!

We booked our accommodation via Expedia.ca and this hotel ended up being the best accommodation for our budget. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling down to San Diego.

The location of the hotel is excellent, in walking distance to all of the nightlife in the Gaslamp Quarter, as well as restaurants and the Horton Plaza shopping center.

The complimentary Acura car service that was also provided by the hotel was amazing and made getting everywhere that much easier and that much more enjoyable.

Our Concierge James Reuz was fantastic. He went above and beyond his duty to be of service to the guests staying at the W. He was extremely knowledgeable in regards to what attractions to visit, the best places to eat and where to shop. He made this girls trip with my friends and I a truly memorable trip. I can not thank him enough for everything that he "hooked " us up with!

Thanks a bundle James.....From your favourite Brown Girls

Wouldn't recommend staying here unless you want to party all night. The place is super noisy. Like most W hotels, after hours the place turns into a lounge/club. When you check in, they give you some club passes that will get you into the "secure" areas.

The biggest problem I had with this hotel was the noise that filtered into the rooms from the club. It's one thing to have a happening club; but when you go back to your room, you want an oasis of peacefulness. This is not to place to find that.

Room Tip: Bring ear plugs.

Hello, and thank you for taking the time write a review of your recent stay with us. While W San Diego does feature a vibrant nightlife, the comfort of our guests is always one of our biggest priorities.

Although some of our guests stay at W San Diego for the high energy, we understand that we have a variety of guests, and we have quiet rooms available.

I hope that you would visit us again, and let us know your preference for a quiet room pre-arrival and we will do our best to really WOW you.

Thank you again,

Brad Wulff

My wife and i booked via Hotwire so i really didnt have a choice on which hotel i stayed at. Overall, it seems like they have tried to be hip and trendy but have failed miserably on all counts. The room was like a college dorm with ikea furniture. Not trendy and chic, but cheap looking. The bed was comfortable.

Parking is way over priced! $35 per day.

They are in the middle of a remodel so some amenities are closed. The pool is small and not inviting.

While many hotels now offer free wifi, this place still charges $15 per day.

The worst thing was that there is a labour dispute with workers involved in the renovation so there are people picketing outside the hotel all day. "Shame on the W" and "improper treatment of immigrant labor" read some of the signs. i dont know the reasons for the labour dispute but the hotel staff told me it was because they hired non union workers to do the renos.

The W advertises that it is in the Gaslamp district - it certainly is not. It is a 10 min walk to the gaslap district.

Bottom line - way over priced for what hotwire calls a 4 star. I would say this is more like a 3 star.

Nice hotel like most W's I've been to are, but not in gaslamp district as advertised. Still a short walk away.

Karl Strauss Brewery has a restaurant located within hotel which was very good.

Staff did a great job welcoming us and let us check into our room at 10 AM which is always nice.

Room Tip: Can't really go wrong with any of the rooms.
