Residence Inn San Diego Mission Valley

We were planning our first big family vacation, and we decided upon San Diego as the destination. I was in charge of finding a hotel, and even with friends in the area, had no idea where to start. I stumbled upon this hotel when looking. We were attracted to it because of the location and kitchen it had in the room. We took a leap of faith and booked it.

Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised with the courtesy provided us by the front desk staff. They were very pleasant and helped us with a smile. The room was exactly what we expected. It did have a musty feel to it, but it wasn't bad or overpowering at all. The kitchen was clean and very usable. Perfect for reheating leftovers and cooking for the kids, as we did numerous times over the course of our stay. We settled in, and then we immediately drove out into the surrounding area in search of food.

The location was great. We came across a mall complete with Target within 5 minutes drive from the hotel. Numerous restaurants line the streets surrounding the area. From Carl's Jr. to Vietnamese, we were pleasantly surprised with the nearby eating locations. In addition, the hotel had a very nice, free breakfast each morning. Mon-Thurs they served dinner to the guests free of charge as well. The dinners were decent. The kids loved them.

The hotel is in a central location for sight-seeing as well. It's located 10-15 minutes from SeaWorld and the closest beaches. Coronado is a little bit farther...maybe 30-40 minutes. Old Town is an area of the city that has a lot of Mexican restaurants and quaint stores. San Diego also has a Little Italy section. It's not great, but it is another attraction about 10 minutes away. If you have kids, Lego Land is the big thing in the vicinity. It's about 40 minutes away. All in all, the location is very good.

We spent most of our time outside of the hotel, but at night we slept well. The walls were a little thin, but noise from adjacent rooms wasn't a problem. The cleaning staff was excellent and brought us whatever we requested quickly and with a smile. We didn't run into any attitude here. We did use the pool a lot, and it was very warm. The Jacuzzi was nice as well. The only problem we had was with the cleanliness of the pool. It was very clean the first couple of days, but the last day we were there, a lot of debris was floating in it.

By the time we left, we felt very well taken care of at this hotel. It was an enjoyable stay, and we would definitely return for another visit.

I scheduled this property after staying at another unacceptable Hilton chain hotel, hoping to get a newer property. This hotel was in a good location not far from north/south or east/west highways. The rooms were okay, and even though I was able to check in very early and get a king even though I reserved 2 queens, the room was on the ground floor. I appreciated the extra space with the two room set up. It was awkward in the bedroom using the dresser as there was not much room between the drawers and the bed. The vanity was fine for me, but had I been travelling with someone else, it would have been too small.
Since my room overlooked the parking lot on the ground floor, I had to keep the drapes closed which made it dark inside. I really did appreciate having a wine glass to enjoy a take out meal in my room.
The bed was not all that comfortable, which made the very loud noise from the a/c unit distracting. The breakfast buffet was great with lots of options and it was great to sit out by the pool to eat except when it was windy. And the hot tub was very nice and very hot! My stay of 3 nights made the $13/night parking a bit bothersome, but was not any trouble to get in/out. There is a pretty good shopping district not too far and making a stop helped to bring a few things in for a late night snack, even though the market did have quite a few things available.

Room Tip: Make sure to get a high floor. The back of the hotel would face a cliff and vegetation. The sides f...

Our week's stay at the Residence Inn was very comfortable and we found it very close and convenient to most San Diego visitors sites including just minutes from Old Towne. We had a one bedroom suite. Rooms were comfortable, we liked the bathroom arrangement with a vanity outside of the shower/toilet room. The kitchen was handy and housekeeping always kept it tidy. We had one small problem with the toilet but it was resolved and we were compensated for our inconvenience. We always request an upper floor room and even though we were told that the RI has 98% occupancy, we never had any problem with noise or crowds. I liked how it was kind of tucked back in rather than right out on the hotel row.

Our stay here was WAY above our expectations. The rooms were very nice, and the price very reasonable for the location. I found the staff very helpful and pleasant. They were definitely there to make our stay a pleasant one. I have always found Marriott very good at taking care of us, but this staff really impressed me with everything. This location is a long way from our home on the east coast, but next time we visit the area we will be staying here.

We stayed here for 4 nights in April and booked a 2 bedroomed suite as a retired couple travelling with our adult son. The suite was ideal, private bedroom and bathroom each and a lounge area with kitchen in between. Everything was kept spotless and very quiet as we were on the top floor, breakfast was very busy but everything was kept topped up until the last minute, happy hour was very welcome after days out sightseeing and all staff we encountered went out of their way to help and be pleasant. We would definitely stay here again.

Thank you so much for the kind words. We know how important it is to be able to relax and at times have a glass of wine or beer to help you unwind upon your arrival back at the hotel; especially after a long day of enjoying San Diegos sun; and we are glad you were able to enjoy that with us during our happy hour. We look forward to having the opportunity of seeing you all again in the future when visiting San Diego.

Thank You!!!

Hubby & I have decided we want to stay in a suite if our stay is greater than one night. This place has it! I was greeted very warmly by staff when we checked in. Most helpful. We had breakfast the next morning. There was a staff person going around refilling beverages & making conversation. She was most friendly. All staff were very helpful. The rooms were clean. Access to the highway was easy.It was a most pleasant stay. Check it out!

Room Tip: They have two sizes of suites. Pay attention. Ask questions.
