Residence Inn San Diego Mission Valley
Ranked #135 of 278 Hotels in San Diego
Reviewed 13 August 2014 via mobile

Everything is good with this place - location, room size and layout, wifi, pool, free breakfast everyday and free supper Monday to Thursday, cleanliness, even free beer with supper from local breweries.

The staff is better than good. Really impressed. Friendly and hardworking. Special mention to Raoul, who has always been free with a smile and takes time to check in on how were are doing.

We have been staying in RM 232 which is a good location, viewing the pool. We will end nine days at this hotel on Friday (Aug. 15) and are thankful we selected this place.

We just got from a week stay at this property (Aug 1-8) and had a great time. We stayed in a two bedroom suite (1 king rm and 2 doubles in another room - 4 adults and 2 kids). We took advantage of the breakfast each morning. Some mornings were more crowded than others, and the staff worked hard to make sure everything was available. A few times some items ran out, but it appeared at times there was only one person doing the refilling and he could only do one thing at a time, but eventually everything was taken care of. As others had mentioned the parking spaces are small for a minivan, but we managed. It would be nice if they didn't charge $13 a day to park since you need to use your room key to get into the parking area anyway, meaning no non-guests will be parking there. We had a noisy A/C in our room, but it wasn't noticed from the bedrooms and we were in our room infrequently that we didn't make mention of it during our stay. We were on the fourth floor and didn't notice too much extra noise from other guests. We were up pretty early most days and gone for the majority of the day. The Wifi was awful. It connected to my phone, but then I couldn't do anything it was so slow. Thankfully I had brought a laptop and they have a cord in the room to connect it to the internet. That wasn't the fastest but it was usuable. When we had checked in I had asked about a restaurant and the woman at the front desk (don't remember her name) recommended The Lazy Dog restaurant that was advertised on their key cards. She told us if we showed our key card we would get 10% off our purchase. The restaurant (including the manager) had no idea what we were talking about. They did give us the 10% but someone might want to get this figured out if guests are being told this information. I meant to mention this at the front desk before we left, but never made back there. The hotel is very convenient to all major roads and close to Sea World, Zoo and the museums of Balboa park and the airport. About 35/40 minutes from Legoland and the Safari park.

Very nice, clean and spacious rooms. Great for kids and large families. Only complaints is the parking lot fills up quick and the spaces are small. Also the walls are pretty thin and as you walk down the hall you can hear what's going on in the rooms. Other than that I totally recommend staying here.

The Residence Inn by Marriott is becoming my first choice of hotel when travel. (I am Marriott Gold) And you can see why as this property is top notch. Seamless and efficient check in. The front desk had everything ready for my brother’s dog who was along for the journey. Rooms are very nice, parking is easy and getting back over to San Diego proper is very simple. I am not one for public food so I did not take part in the buffet breakfast that is offered. The restaurant looked crowded as there were hundreds of kids going to a soccer tournament. Not a complaint. Just an observation. They do have a well-stocked market that even offers beer and wine for sale. However my only complaint is that they only do happy hour on the weekdays. That’s not fair!!! Looking to return in October

Room Tip: i would ask for a room on the top floor.

So good to hear we are your first choice to stay when visiting San Diego. Sorry we don't offer hospitality Hour on the Weekends; but I am excited to let you know that during the Football season there will be a light happy hour for 21 and over guests in the lounge each Sunday. Hope we see you there soon!!! Thank you for your kind review.

All the staff members were great - no exceptions. The kids loved the breakfasts; the adults loved the $$ saved. Although we only took advantage of it one time, the complimentary light dinner and beer/wine provided on weekdays is a great idea for families on a budget.

We did have a plumbing problem on our last night, but it was handled exactly as it should have been.

All in all, we were very happy with our hotel choice, and would definitely stay there again if traveling with. children.

A group of us came for a wedding. The front desk staff was friendly and efficient. The room was stylish and comfortable. Both the bed and the sofa bed were comfortable. The kitchen and bathrooms were immaculate.

I arrived on July 20, 2014 in the morning and staff (Michelle A.) went out of her way to secure me the first prepared room despite my early arrival. Throughout the week, all staff members were outstanding in service and friendliness. My schedule required early departures daily and the 0600 breakfast allowed me a great start to my day. Monday - Wednesday offered Happy Hour with truly excellent food and drink, of special note was Wednesday's burger and hot dog grilling near the pool, just like home!

I have stayed at Residence Inn's previously and will always make it a point to stay at RI's as they offer wonderful amenities, large space for the business traveler who often returns to the room very tired. Of course, this particular RI exceeded even the high standard set by all the RI's. This is a great location, convenient to the expressways and near downtown, but away from the huge crowds.

Room Tip: Second floor suites are always quieter.
