“great service”
Reviewed 3 October 2013

We stayed for a week at this hotel. Everyone who worked there was very friendly and did their job well. The location was good - near the expressway and close to Old Town. You were able to hear the airplanes, but very faintly. We parked on the street with no problem. The breakfast had a lot of choices - most good, but the watery eggs and daily sausage didn't appeal to us. The pool is small and only 3-4 feet deep. It was clean, but both the pool and hot tub needed to be skimmed for little bugs more frequently. The hot tub was hot, and the pool a decent temperature. Our room was fine - typical for a Fairfield Inn. We did appreciate having the refrigerator and microwave in the room. This hotel used to be a Holiday Inn. The lobby and parts of the rooms have been refurbished. There are parts of the grounds that look run down. A fresh coat of paint would help in some areas - others need refurbishing. All areas were clean.
We would stay here again for a vacation where we were not spending much time at the hotel. It was a good, economical choice for our needs.

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the courtyard.

A very good location for shopping, catching the trolley, and a variety of restaurants. Rooms were clean and hotel served an excellent breakfast. The reception desk was helpful with information, and getting us the shuttle and cabs.
This was our first trip to San Diego, and this was a good hotel choice, it met our needs very well.

Room Tip: Asked for a ground floor room, we found it handy to the breakfast room, lobby, and patio.

First of all, the location of this hotel is perfect for strolling the shops and restaurants of Old Town San Diego. It's right at the end of the Old Town street. Five minute walk to excellent restaurants and all the Mexican trinkets and decor you can ever want to see or buy.

The hotel is clean, beautifully decorated, and the layout is convenient. The lobby has a breakfast room, and the workout room is easily accessable and has complimentary ice water and fruit. The swimming pool is small, but also clean and well maintained.

Parking is iff-y. You have to buy a permit from the hotel to park in the garage, but if you can find a spot on the street, you can park there. When you check in, just park in front of the lobby, walk in, buy your permit, and then make a right DOWN into the garage. You'll need your room key to open the garage gate. There's an elevator from the garage to the first and second floor of the hotel. Convenient. I was staying for the Advanced Placement training for high school, and this was a great hotel. Sure, the University of San Diego, where the training was held, was a few minutes down the road, but the accomodations at the Fairfield made the drive worth it.

Rooms have refrigerators, free wi-fi, and comforatable beds. Lots of outlets are spread throughout the room including in the end table lamps. I love that. Plus, an iHome sits on one side table for your phone alarm clock. Bring your adaptor for your iPhone 5 as the iHome is equipped for the 4. There is an ice machine just outside the rooms by the outdoor elevator. Quality ice. There are many exterior gates to the streets leading to Old Town. Just use your key to get in when returning. The hotel has a beautiful patio area in the center with fountains and planters. Views of the courtyard are trainquil and asthetically pleasing.

If you're looking for a hotel adjacent to Old Town San Diego, this is the place. There's even a convenience/souvenir shop a few minutes into Old Town to buy essentials. Or the hotel has a little mini-shop to buy snacks and soft drinks. I was never wanting for anything. The cable channels leave a bit to be desired, but they offer the standard hotel cable.

I have no complaints, and I hope to stay here again if my school will send me back for the AP Lit training next year. Fingers crossed.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms might feel more private as first floor rooms on the courtyard are easily seen by...

We stayed 2 nights (Sept. 4th & 5th) to attend family day and graduation at MCRD, this hotel was the perfect location with a reliable, friendly and fast shuttle to the base. The hotel staff were all friendly and helpful too. The lobby was an inviting area with internet access , newspapers etc. We didn't have the breakfast because we chose to get to the base as early as possible but they had a really good selection of cold and hot items. The room was perfect in size, clean and well decorated. The bed was really comfortable, the courtyard view was relaxing at the end of the day, overall a wonderful experience ! We walked to Cafe Coyote, easy and safe walk. I would highly recommend this hotel especially to families visiting MCRD.

Our room was clean and the complimentary hot breakfast had plenty of variety. No need to pay additional costs as there is plenty of street parking and free Internet. The courtyard area was nicely maintained with an outdoor pool and spa. If you're out there in the evenings, you can relax and watch the fireworks from Seaworld.

A friend and I flew to San Diego for the weekend and planned on using public transportation, so wanted a centrally located hotel. Read a great review for the Fairfield Inn & Suites in Old Town on Trip Advisor and it appeared it would meet all of our needs....which it did. There was a free shuttle to and from the airport, it was about a 6 block walk to the public transport center where you could catch a bus, trolley or train. It was easy to get to Sea World, Seaport Village, Balboa Park. Since we were staying in Old Town it was a breeze to explore. The Fairfield Inn is a very nice place to stay. It had a full hot breakfast which made for a great start to the day, the front desk people were always pleasant and helpful, and the rooms were modern, clean and comfortable. We enjoyed it so much we plan to stay there again next year when we go back to do the things we didn't have time to do this year.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 413 which was on the ground level, quiet, and close to the breakfast area and lobb...
