“Great stay!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 April 2014

My husband and I only stayed a night but everything was great. We checked in early with no problems, friendly and informative front desk associate, we set up our airport shuttle easily and when we got to the front desk in the morning the driver was right on time. The associate that morning, at 5am, was very friendly and helpful, kudos to him! We needed extra towels and toothpaste and it was brought immediately. Location is awesome and its a nice old town feel. We would definitely stay again!

Room Tip: Ask for close to lobby.

We are usually happy with our stays at Fairfield Inns, but the Fairfield Inn in Old Town San Diego was a bitter disappointment. While the hotel staff was, for the most part, lovely, our room was not. I imagine that the hotel was aiming for a sleek modern look with the room furnishings, but instead our room came across as cold and spartan. For the price, we expected more. The real deal-breaker came when my husband decided to take a shower before bed. He stepped into the shower, turned the water on, and when he pulled on the shower stem the entire tub faucet and a length of pipe came out of the wall in his hands! Water was pouring into the wall but we managed to shut it off. The desk sent maintenance up but he said he would have to wait for his supervisor to fix it in the morning because it would require a torch. The hotel was full so they couldn't move us to another room. Thankfully, we were able to shower in my sister's room the next morning before departing for whale camp in Mexico where shower facilities would be limited. When we checked out I talked to the desk manager about a discount. He said they had already taken $25 off of our bill. I said I didn't think that was much of a discount for all of the inconvenience so he grudgingly gave me a 50% discount. The breakfast buffet was fine. I would not stay at the Fairfield Inn in Old Town again. Too expensive for what you get.

Room Tip: The hotel is something of a rabbit warren (windy hallways and multiple buildings) and we had to walk...

Green Features: Pretty standard. They ask you to reuse towels and not ask to have sheets changed daily.

Dear Nancy P,

Thank you for your review on April 3, 2014. I deeply regret the experience you had with the plumbing in your room and offer a sincere apology. After reviewing your review I ensured that the issue was fixed and it has already been taken care of. Obviously that is not the level of service you would come to expect from a Marriott property. Again please accept my apology and I hope you will give Marriott another chance.

We decided to stay at the Fairfield mainly because of the free breakfast. We had reservations at the Old Town Inn but cancelled for above reason.
Gotta say that out of all the places we've stayed at that provide breakfast this was the worst. Sausage seemed to be uncooked or warm in the microwave. LlMP with no evidence of browning. Scrambled eggs like yellow rubber. I understand it's free, but I would think perhaps the "Chef" might want to rethink serving such a uneatable mess.

Excellent location for interesting and lively Old Town 5 minutes walk away. Close to Trolley stops for other areas of San Diego. Hotel is easy to find from freeway and in a mostly quiet area. Rooms clean and freshly renovated although air con a bit old fashioned and noisy. Breakfast limited but adequate and public areas not particularly attractive.

This Fairfield (once the Mission Inn) is on the south end of Old Town so the main attractions are within walking distance but a ways away -at least 6 or 7 blocks. Parking on the street is limited especially in the evening so I'd advise paying the $15 a night and using the underground garage. The rooms are fine -clean, everything worked, and beds were comfortable. The hotel is spread out so there can be a lot of walking down numerous corridors to get to your room depending on where it is. Very helpful front desk staff. Breakfast was typical Fairfield with eggs, sausage,, cereal etc. Lots of choices. For Marriott Rewards members down the street a couple of blocks nearer to Old Town activities is a large Courtyard. One of the benefits of the Fairfield is its proximity across I-5 to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot. We were attending a Recruit Graduation and could easily reach the base or I-5 just a couple of blocks from the hotel (use the Old Town exit). Overall a good place to stay in Old Town if Old Town is not the primary purpose of your trip. If it is it is a short drive over to the main attractions or a long walk. My room had a microwave and refrigerator - a welcome addition.

Room Tip: Try and request a room near the lobby area (on the first floor or above) to avoid what can be a long...

This is a very nice Fairfield Inn that is 5 minutes from the airport. It is very close to popular San Diego attractions. For great food and shopping fun, Old Town San Diego is just a few minutes walk down the street. Parking is extremely limited so if you have a car, plan to pay to use the underground hotel parking. The hotel has 3 floors but the first floor is pretty much below ground level with no view. The 2nd floor where I stayed is actually at street level. The hotel has a very nice open courtyard with fountains, seating areas and swimming pool. All are meticulously maintained. Rooms were modern, clean, well-maintained and easy to work in. The lobby is good sized and has a breakfast area with indoor and outdoor (courtyard) seating. The breakfast fare is average - nothing special. All in all, a very nice hotel that I highly recommend.

Room Tip: You need to be on 2nd or 3rd floor to have any type of view. Be careful when entering the undergrou...

I have stayed at this property many times. It's comfortable, staff is friendly and helpful. The location has great fwy access. You can walk all around San Diego's Old Town easily and if you need anything the Old Town Liquor & Deli is just across the street.
I do have to say, the property is starting to look tired in the hallways, but nowhere else, maybe new paint would help. Rooms are clean, comfortable and they have all you need. The courtyard and pool area is also very nice and relaxing.

Room Tip: Every experience I've had has been great and quiet.
