Nice pool. Clean room. Fantastic location!! Very Small handicap rooms. Small breakfast room. Great location for going to sea world. You can easily leave the park during the heat of the day and business, go swim and eat lunch at the room and then go back for the less busy evening shows and fireworks. Perfect. Also, lots of shopping and restaurants nearby.
I read many reviews by others before booking this hotel, as this was our first trip to San Diego, and was satisfied on what I had read at the time. We drove 8-9 hours from the Sacramento area, and arrived a couple hours before the official check-in time. Checked in with no problem. We had a 2 queen bed room, and in attempts to get in, the 2 room keys did not work. My husband went down to the desk 2x to get this fixed, while I was outside the room with all of our luggage waiting. Raymond, one of the maintenance employees, asked me if I needed help, and he opened the door with a master key to let me in. What a nice thing to do--when my husband came back, we realized that we needed to open the door a different way (handle up, instead of down), and Raymond helped with that. Problem solved; however, there should be some instructions on how to in open the room door. Yes, there is an elevator!!!
The room itself is quite dated, but we appreciated the refrigerator/microwave/safe/. We bought our own pillows, but the bed was comfy. The shower and sink worked well with no problems. We stayed there for 5 nights, 6 days and was quiet most of the time. Due to the warmer weather, the air conditioner was used, but it is in an awful location--underneath the main window, and the air hits right against the bed. When you raise up the vents, they did not always stay--my husband took a small piece of paper and folded it up to place underneath the vent to make it hold and get the air to circulate above the bed--that worked somehow. Needs to be serviced, as the cool air did not circulate as well as it should have. The TV was a flat panel, but not lots of channels; mostly local. If you have lots of electronics, there were enough outlets to plug in 2 phones and 2 tablets, although some of the outlets need maintenance because the prongs on a couple of our power cords would not stay in the plug itself; they kept falling out. Although parking is plentiful, we had a handicapped placard, and could always get a parking space, which is underneath the building.
The weekend before Thanksgiving had families check in on our floor, and we had the problem of very noisy kids 2 doors down from us. We experienced hang-up calls 3 times. We complained to the front desk, and the one clerk was very apologetic, but she did nothing. The last time it happened another clerk blocked phone calls from coming to our room. This could have been a customer service moment for the 1st person, who did not even try.
The breakfast, we thought was a hot breakfast based on earlier reviews, was not available, but there was waffles along with the typical continental breakfast items. The location was great, as it right off the freeway with lots of shopping and restaurants in the area. We actually checked ou1 day early, but overall the room is a good price, just a little too high on the weekends. We were surprised that we had to hunt for a gas station other than Arco, but found one about a 3-4 blocks away.
Good for couples or families, if you don't spend a lot of time in the room.
My husband and I spent 2 nights in La Quinta Inn during our stay in San Diego and really liked the hotel. We were in our honeymoon and they upgraded our room, which was great. The room was large, with 2 flat TVs and a King Size bed. We loved the upgrade. Although the hotel is located right in the freeway, we didn't hear any noise in our room. Also, we were close to the main attractions of San Diego. The continental breakfast was very good, with good selections of pastries, waffles and so on, I would just recommend an early and more peaceful breakfast, since most people opt for having breakfast around 10 am (winter time) and the room can be a little crowded. Wi-Fi was excellent.
We stayed during Thanksgiving week with two kids in a king suite. Breakfast room was stocked with eggs, mini waffles, cereal, assorted breads, yogurt, instant oatmeal, juices and coffee - everything we needed to satisfy picky eaters before a day of sightseeing. Surprisingly and pleasantly not so crowded at the hotel at this time. Covered/underground parking lot is tight, but there are plenty of outside spaces, as well. King suite was nice - two televisions and two sink areas. The sofa bed was a tad lumpy - but the kids didn't mind or notice.
Close to Target and lots of restaurant/shopping options.
Great value - we stay here whenever we're in San Diego.
