I have stayed at the majority of the hotels in the Gaslamp and the Omni definitely ranks near the top of the list. Everything from the location to the room to the service to the pool was exactly what we were looking for.

I chose the hotel because I have wanted to stay there for a long time and also because of its location in relation to Petco Park. The bridge that allows access back and forth to Petco for hotel guests is a great addition that we used once we had enough watching the Padres lose again.

The room was a corner room with a king size comfy bed, good sized television, and good views from both corners of the room. The bathroom was situated nicely. However, does not offer very much in terms of privacy from the rest of the room since there are wooden slated walls that open directly to the bed area. Shower is a bit on the small side but the water pressure was very nice.

We spent the daytime prior to the game on the pool deck which was quite crowded due to unseasonably warm weather that weekend. There are signs saying no outside food and beverages allowed. However, we always take our bubba kegs filled with our favorite pool side beverage with us to hotel pools and did not get hassled by the staff. I figure that if you are not a jerk then what do they really care. If you do decide to buy your drinks and food at the pool they do have a full service bar and grill . The food that other pool guests eating looked pretty good with nice size portions.

The only downside that I found was that our complimentary morning beverage did not arrive not only not on time but not at all. I did not feel like raising the issue so I let it go. Also, parking was close to $40 a night so if you are driving figure that into your budget.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel to people that are in town for a Padres game or would like to investigate the Gaslamp for a night.

Room Tip: Corner room above the 6th floor would be best.

My boyfriend and I stayed here 3 nights as the last part of a 9 day California vacation. We absolutely loved the Omni! Its a perfect location if you are going to be spending time in the gaslamp quarter exploring the restaurants and bars. Its like 1 block away yet far enough that I don't really recall hearing a ton of noise at night. Everyone at the hotel was super friendly and helpful. Every time we called for the valet to bring up our rental car they would put 2 cold, mini water bottles in the cup holders for us. The room was very modern, had a great TV and the bathroom had awesome shelves to put your things. The pool deck area was nice, and the pool was really warm even though it was kind of cold outside. All in all I could hardly find anything to complain about, I would definitely stay here again!

The bell staff and front desk team were very friendly upon check-in. The check in process was very quick and easy. The location hotel was very central to many quaint shops and restaurants. The hotel is also connected to Petco park for easy access to the games. There is a nice size outdoor mall within walking distance although I wouldn't recommend being in the area of the mall after dark as it seemed there were a lot of transient and undesirable individuals. The hotel is also located across the street from the public train system which made it easy to navigate to other areas of the city. The room itself was pretty typical of a mid-range hotel. The beds were a little uncomfortable and the linens on the bed were average. However, the towels were very nice and plentiful as were the other amenities such as soap, shampoo, etc. I did notice that every morning when I turned on the shower, the sink gurgled and filled my bathroom with a rotten egg smell which was unpleasant. I could also vividly hear every shower either above, below or aside me. The walls were not well insulated from noise. As a tip, sign up for the Omni loyalty program and you will get free coffee, soda or juice delivered to your room every morning.

Room Tip: A higher room facing the water if you like the view and are not disturbed by some noise from the har...

Amazing hotel, not as spiffy as Mandarin, Peninsula or Four Seasons, but much better than the rest of the brands. They have a good front desk, good concierge, coffee shop and a really good hotel restaurant ( another brand-McCormick & Schmitz). The rooms are lovely and comfortable, with everything you need--not a walk in shower but the next best thing and two sinks and a neat looking bathroom. Best of all is the location, the Gas Lamp district is walkable, and filled with great stores, shops, restaurants, bars, etc. If you like baseball, it is close by the Petco Padres stadium, and after fighting the Yankee Stadium and other big parks, you take an escalator from the lobby into the stadium and back. Also, the price is right, in the two hundreds.

Room Tip: High floor corner best.

This was our first time staying at the Omni and overall, we were mostly impressed. The service was outstanding and everyone we encountered was top notch. The rooms were nice, not as hip or modern as I usually prefer, but very clean and updated. I absolutely love the fact that the windows open, the fresh air felt wonderful, but unfortunately because of the noise from both the trains and the tons of screaming children at the pool, they remained closed most of the time. The bathroom setup was a little odd with the slated windows separating the bedroom and bathroom, but we really enjoyed that bathrobes were provided. Overall it's a great hotel in a great location with outstanding customer service. For me, it's just a little too large and too family friendly to truly relax, but they do allow dogs, which we appreciate.

Located around the corner from the convention center, and a short walk to the water and the gaslamp district (restaurants, shopping, and occasional city celebrations), the Omni San Diego is a no brainer. We traveled as a couple on business/pleasure (without children), and found it sufficient for the above reasons. The gym is small, but efficient. A couple of downsides exist.

First, the seafood restaurant had terrible service in the afternoon. We've stayed here twice and both times found the maitre'ds to have negative attitudes. On this visit, he was not phased when we left after waiting 45 minutes for our food, while the place was largely empty. We did let the hotel staff know. However, breakfast was delightful-both the food and the waitstaff, albeit overpriced.

Second, the hotel doesn't have much character. It is a cookie cutter chain hotel. I only mention this for those readers who might be looking for that unique touch.
For our next trip, we'll try a smaller hotel, but in the same general area.
