“Another wonderful neighborhood sushi bar!”
Reviewed 17 May 2014 via mobile

In the city with a large Asian population only the best Sushi restaurants survive. This is a great little spot not very far from Old Town. Small and intimate with wonderful sushi and sashimi. The atmosphere is small and intimate. Most of the clientele is Asian which should tell you something immediately. Although not overly creative the quality is first rate. You will not be disappointed.

“Authentic”
Reviewed 13 November 2013

Did not want to review because I want this place to be kept as a secret! Went on a week night with no reservation and there was nearly an hour wait, but luckily someone ahead of us cancelled and the hostess sat us after just 10 minutes. Everyone in the restaurant except us were Japanese, clients, the chefs and hosts. Very authentic and fresh. My husband lived in Japan previously and he said it was as close as you can get. They had happy hour menu as well with some discounted options. Overall, a great choice!

“Fantastic - the best experience ever!”
Reviewed 31 October 2013

Staying at a hotel nearby and not interested in Mexican, I found Tadokoro on Tripadvisor. The previous few reviews do not lie: this place is fantastic!

The fish is all fresh, and they are more than happy to make a combination of tastes for you. On a Thursday night, I was surprised to get in, let alone get a place at the bar. Great fun watching them prepare your food in front of you.

Judging by the crowd, in which the non-Japanese were in a definite minority, this is the place to go for fantastic sushi and sashimi!

“Excellent Sushi”
Reviewed 21 June 2013

We were staying down the street and almost passed on this place because it is so small. Like the commercial says - "Cheap is good, sushi is good. Cheap sushi - not so good." I'm glad we gave it a try.

This place is a hidden gem. The sushi was fresh and very good. The tempura was some of the lightest I have ever had - very tasty. Service was great, but you probably need to time your visit or make a reservation as it is very small.

The price was compatible to other sushi restaurants and for sure it is on my list to visit again when in San Diego.

“Love this place! Reservations a must!”
Reviewed 11 June 2013

Decided on this place after reading reviews on Trip Advisor, Yelp, and Urbanspoon. What a find! First of all this place is very small. We got there just as they opened and the only reason we got in was because it was a weeknight. By the time we left the place was packed and waiting lines outside. Sushi/sashimi very fresh. Lots of items on the menu I was not familiar with. The goyza was excellent. We had a variety of rolls, all amazing. My son asked for a special tuna roll made with cucumber on the outside instead of rice. The chef was more than willing to accommodate. There were four of us and we were all delighted with the food. Staff very nice and went out of their way to make sure we were well taken care of. We felt the prices were fair considering the quality of the food. They do have beer and wine. Sushi bar had several Japanese speaking patrons who seemed to love their food. It is on the edge of Old Town in a strip mall so we had free parking. We will go there every time we go to San Diego but will definitely study menu before I go.
