After seeing the Midway, I highly suggest you go wander around the memorial area. The statues are very moving--for young and old. Take your turn getting a picture by the huge statue of the sailor kissing the girl. The San Diego/Coronado area is very patriotic and it is wonderful. Wander over to Seaport Village and the Head Quarters area while you have parking--both are worth seeing as well!

Lovely place for photographs and contemplation - it it's not too crowded. I found the whole area, quite a pleasant place for strolling, taking photographs and just sitting to take in the views.

Breath-taking. Bronze statues of US injured military troops, facing Bob Hope speaking. lt is amazing how the USA supports ALL their troops, and in such a graceful way.

On the way you will passby the giant sailor kissing his girl. Take the opportunity to have a picture taken underneath them, alogside them; you may have to wait because it does get busy.

Night / day vendors mingle with the tourist to try and sell you their wares.

However, take the time to explore this compact area. especially as the sun sets, it is beautiful.

This statue pavilion or plaza does a great job bringing to life the heart and soul of military duty and honoring all who have served, in and out of uniform. Bob Hope's many showtimes both domestic and abroad are featured in the excellent statuary. Be sure to pose your friends and family members among the 40 or so figures on the plaza. The kissing couple epitomizes the joy of returning home from war. Note the marine atmosphere nearby, topped by views of the grand USS Midway docked right next door. The National Salute Plaza makes for a fine interlude in your tour of San Diego's waterfront, docks, Gas Lamp Quarter and other attractions.

If you visit the USS Midway make sure you take a little walk over to this monument. We took a small walk not knowing that it was even there, mostly just wanting to see the kissing couple (which we spotted from aboard the Midway) but were pleasantly surprised by this tribute to Bob Hope. The statues were very life-like and there was a loop of Bob in the background telling jokes. Very nice.
