Owner description: The best way to spend time on San Diego's beaches is by doing something unique - build a professional style sand castle! San Diego Sand Castles isn't a gallery, competition, or "thing to see" for public viewing (please don't come to our address expecting to see sand castles!) In fact, we're a far more interactive reservations-required beachside "thing to do" where your group gets to be the artists! San Diego Sand Castles specializes in sand castle lessons for people of all ages all year-round! Our sand castle lessons are a lot of fun, are educational, and a great way to spend time on the beach in San Diego. When the instructors aren't happily teaching sand castle lessons, they are often working on professional masterpiece commissioned sculptures or you can often find them creating their own unique ideas!

We booked a lesson with JT after reading all of the reviews on TripAdvisor and thought it would be a fun and unique way to experience San Diego for our first-time visit. It definitely was! We did have a hiccup or two with a change in beach locations the night before and JT running a bit late on the morning of our lesson, but since it was our first stop on our trip, we didn't mind. Once we were off and running, it was just so much fun--we had 2 adults and 2 kids (teen and tween)--and all of us had a great time and learned so much while having fun and building something that we never would have thought possible (and we couldn't believe how fast the time flew by!). JT was really generous with his time and materials as well and we ended up spending about 4 hours on the beach; he even left his supplies with us so we could finish up the job after he left us for his next lesson. We highly recommend this unique and fun experience!

This was by far the highlight of the trip. We spent 3 hours with a skilled sand castle maker (what are they called? Sand Castleologists?) making a beautiful sand castle. She taught us about how to make our own and our kids spent the rest of our vacation on the beach trying out their new skills. We had a party of 10 and the Sand Castleologist handled us all with no issue. Including a 6 yr old and an 8 yr old. it was amazing! I would highly recommend this as part of your vacation.

Excellent family time, perfectly moderated by JT. We built a high castle and everyone got to contribute in a good way. JT made it look easy but it was still doable to get a good looking castle on own merits.

This was my first scheduled activity during my San Diego trip. JT was awesome to work with. He explained and demonstrated all of his knowledge and was patient and encouraging while we worked on the sandcastle. My husband, my ten year old daughter, and I loved every part of this experience. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a memorable experience while visiting San Diego.

Found many good reviews on this when planning trip. Expected it to be great fun for grand kids (9 & 12 yrs). This was great fun for them. They really enjoyed the castle building.
Andrew was great as instructor in taking us through the steps of building castle - using plastic frames for the base of sand castle, developing the three levels, mixing the sand with necessary water. Everything when very well. Decided to do an Alamo-ish sand castle. Andrew drew an Alamo picture on side of castle from internet photo - very good. He showed grand kids how to create doors, windows, stairs around the castle. Castle was about 4 feet in height. This was great fun for all.
