“A good place to go for a night out”
Reviewed 2 December 2013

This was a great experience, the atmosphere, the jazz music, and the food all made for a memorable night.

We arrived late and they fitted us in without a reservation. It was loud, but we had requested a table near the band. I thought the music was good (and I am not a jazz fan – but the jazz fans seemed even more impressed).

We had a spinach salad and a wedge salad as starters followed by meatballs and a meat loaf. The food was not the very best we had whilst in California, but all the dishes were good.

As for value for money the above dishes plus a glass of orange juice and glass of wine set us back $89.10 including tax

I liked the atmosphere and the jazz and I enjoyed the food and would happily go again

“Yummy, slightly spendy”
Reviewed 20 November 2013

Food was really good, service was just fine and the atmosphere was great. Jim Croce music playing while we were there (too early for the live music). I was dissapointed the live music advertised on their website for the Sunday brunch didn't happen but we were very happy with our meals.

“Very average food on a monday night”
Reviewed 18 November 2013

So we stopped into Croce`s on a quiet Monday night.. We weren`t very hungry so wanted a good drink and some appetizers. The margaritas were very average and made us wonder if they had alcohol in them. The French onion soup was good but it went down hill from there .. The $15 calamari was overcooked and dry and the hummus was very average. The bill came in at over $80 - not worth the money under any circumstance.
I don`t think it was because we weren`t very hungry, but rather than maybe they had the short order cook working on a quiet Monday night. I hope others have better luck and have meals reflective of the high rating this restaurant has on this site.

“The Best Meal I Have Eaten in San Diego...”
Reviewed 14 November 2013

Walking into Croce's Restaurant & Jazz Bar is like stepping through a portal into another place altogether. The "spirit" of this establishment is absolutely amazing, exuding warmth and absolutely hospitality... quite like the feeling of visiting a good friend's home for a made-from-scratch dinner. This description isn't far off base.

Jim and Ingrid Croce mused about starting a restaurant and bar, much like the description above... a place to basically eat good food and listen to good music. Both musicians, they could definitely envision an inviting property where music wafted out onto the sidewalk, and people passing by were literally drawn in. Tragically, Jim Croce passed in an airplane accident while on tour, supporting a slew of gold records and hit songs like Time in a Bottle and Bad, Bad Leroy Brown. Years later,to keep his memory alive and their unadulterated love for music, Ingrid opened Croce's Restaurant... right on the same corner where she and Jim once pondered opening a place of their own.

And their dream has definitely come to fruition, because this is a restaurant like no other, offering high caliber entertainment and some of the most delicious food that I have ever tasted! Serving breakfast and lunch on the weekends and dinner nightly, Executive Chef James Clark serves up classic dishes with a definitive twist. The menu offers so many choices that you must honestly return three or four times to explore it, with entrees including bordeaux braised short ribs with mac n cheese, shrimp carbonara fettuccine with Italian pancetta, pan-seared sea bass, and grilled free-range chicken. However, the prime contemporary meatloaf may just be the best dish I have ever eaten. Imagine the down home goodness of your grandmother's meatloaf, completely turned on its head and freshened with a creative mixture of herbs, and cooked to absolute perfection.

I can not stress that any trip to San Diego demands a visit to Croce's. They will be moving from the Gaslamp Quarter, so dine before they move, and then ensure that you return to see their new location!

Visit them online for additional information and details and dates of their relocation, or call 619-233-4355.
