Our visit to Sushi Ota was way too long ago...but the taste of the food is still clear in our minds. Beautiful sushi, and Japanese food that we crave. Always fresh, always delightful. Who knew a little strip mall in Pacific Beach would provide such amazing, consistent and delicious food for so many years! It's a busy little place, but so worth the wait. Do not leave San Diego without trying Sushi Ota. Yum!
If you're looking for authentic sushi along with other fine Japanese style food, this is the place. One measure of an international restaurant I have always relied on with great success is the number of people from that origin who dine there. Who would know best than those who are accustomed to what the food should taste like? Give it a try and remember to make a reservation and plan for time to park as fine food attracts many customers.
The best! If you don't mind the wait and you hunger pangs don't get the best of you, this is the place to sushi in San Diego. Creative, fresh and lovely to look at Sushi Ota won't disappoint!
By far the best Sushi Restaurant on the West Coast and of course in San Diego! On his reputation and relationship Master Yukito Ota gets first pick of fish coming from Japan and local catch. More than seventy percent of the fish comes directly from Japan. Great quality of Mackerel, O-Toro the most desired part of the tuna belly, and sweet oysters are just delightfully exquisite! The local Uni and Salmon belly nigiri is also first grade! This is the reason why many local Japanese living in San Diego will tell you that this is hands down the best in town!
Personally I did not find it so pricey as the quality of the fish is exceptionally fresh! Try New York for the best O-Toro and you will invariably pay double! The O-Toro was a delightful marbly composition melting in your mouth! Also try the Yellowtail belly which offers more buttery goodness!
The service was impeccable with a very attentive waiter and the rest of the crew making sure that you had plenty of water and green tea. So in my book it is as good as it gets for the USA! Omakase is the password to a divine and very special experience.
