“A Perfect Weekend Getaway!”
Reviewed 5 October 2008

Expedia had a great deal per night at the Hotel Solamar, so I booked a long weekend stay. The lobby of the hotel was very clean and modern and the check-in service was very prompt. As we entered our room on the sixth floor, we were pleasantly surprised. The colors were nice, the amenities were great, and the overall comfort and cleanliness of the room was perfect. The hot tub is a must. The walls are a little thin, but luckily it didn't turn into a problem. Overall, the location and price of the hotel would bring me back for another visit. You are within walking distance to so much, including Petco Park, if you are there for a game. The Gaslamp District is right there with many restaurants to choose from. My suggestions...Mary Jane's Coffee Shop for breakfast and Lou and Mickey's for dinner. They won't disappoint.

  • Liked — The overall feel and style.
  • Disliked — The thin walls.

We stayed here for a romantic getaway and it was delightful!!!

Our "travel agent" booked us here and downgraded our room without our authorization. When we went to check in and found out about the downgrade (for the same price!), we brought it to the attention of the hotel staff. They contacted the manager and within 10 minutes, we had one of the best rooms in the hotel on the top floor. The staff went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of which is more than I can say for our "travel agent".

The hotel is just awesome! The rooms are beautiful and the location is well, location, location, location.

We stayed in a room facing the bar/pool and we did not hear the noise others complained about and we left our windows open. The room was amazing, clean, spotless, with wonderful shower and hot-tub.

We can't say enough good things about the Hotel and the Staff. They were absolutely delightful. We felt like we were staying at "Hotel Babylon" for you BBC fans.

One thing about parking. "Park It On Market" is just around the corner on Market St and costs half as much as the Solomar.

Just wanted to post a note that I loved the Hotel Solamar. I got it for 5 night through Priceline. The hotel is modern and clean and in a great location in the Gaslamp. There were hundreds of restaurants and bars in the proximity. A bonus is that Long's Pharmacy is next door so if you need anything like toothpaste or whatever, you can just run over. The bathrooms were great and I bought bath salts and took baths most days...drinking a free glass of wine from the daily wine tasting at 5PM.
Enjoy!

I just returned from the hotel and had a very nice stay here. The rooms are very spacious and the beds are quite comfortable. They offer a complimentary coffee bar every morning and a wine reception every evening. The location is central to shops and restaurants. The pool and bar on the fourth floor are alot of fun. The only complaint I have is the very poor water pressure in the shower. I know they are trying to conserve water, but when it takes two to three times as long to rinse the shampoo from your hair, it kind of defeats the purpose.

This hotel is a little different from most with a somewhat more edgy decor, but otherwise it is a typical above-average 4 star hotel. The location, on the edge of the Gaslamp district, is very convenient. The staff were helpful. The rooms were very good; my only complaints were the pressure from the shower head and the fact that there was no separate shower. Adjacent restaurant was excellent.

This was my second time at a Kimpton property and I must say they have a nice track record going. Love the hotel and room decor. Service is always the pampered, kind, courteous treatment I think we would all love from every travel related chain. Free wine in the evenings, flexibility to get you whatever you or to wherever you need to go. I am typically wary of posters who are this positive about a place, but, I can't imagine any of what I have written above to be hyperbole.

We booked this hotel through Virgin holidays as it was the best price we could find.
The hotel is great. Ths staff were all fab and friendly, the rooms were very clean and to a high standard and the free wine hour everyday is spot on.
We had a room overlooking the pool, but as the bar closes at 12 it was never a problem to us. The atmosphere around the pool and bar area at night was great.
The location is also ideal if you are looking at being near all the bars and restaurants in the city.
