Description: Joe and Frank Busalacchi created this Italian Cafe'-style concept, and you'll find that this delightful setting gets attention around the clock. Casual and spirited food is served. Breakfast, Lunch and dinner are served daily. Diners enjoy lingering over coffee and sumptuous desserts created by pastry maker Frank who was trained by a Sicilian master. Whether you are in the mood for pizza, pasta, seafood, chicken, or veal, this is the place. Also, make sure you treat your sweet tooth to one of the sinful desserts. Here you'll find some of the most incredible delectables not found anywhere else in San Diego. You would have to go to Sicily to find items such as the cassata Sicilian, "the cake of Sicily," a beautiful creation of marzipan, sponge cake, ricotta, and fruits with a pretty floral design. It, like the pastries, desserts, and gelato, is made fresh on the premises. There's more: try the arancini, a fried golden brown rice ball filled with meat or mozzarella cheese, or sample the calzone or brioche filled with meat or peas. After your meal you also simply must try the homemade gelato, featured in flavors such as, pistachio, strawberry, hazelnut, chocolate chip, or limone.Cafe' Zucchero's menu lists fine panini (sandwiches) such as the Italiano with eggplant, mozzarella cheese, and extra virgin olive oil, or the pollo (with grilled chicken, onions, avocado, and tomato). There are a few pasta/risotto dishes - try the pasta with Italian sausage, capers, olives, and tomatoes. The contadina also is a good choice.

“Amazing desert”
Reviewed 9 May 2014 credit card Amex Cardmember Review

If your looking for a sinful indulgence in the afternoon for a pick me up, this is the place. My assistant and I decided to have some desert and as a result I decided to make my selection but with so many we were having a hard time. I decided on a lemon cheesecake. It was SINFUL and delicious just be careful you will have a lot to choose from!

“Open for breakfast on a street where few are.”
Reviewed 2 May 2014

We stayed at the La Pensione across the street and found this café, the only one, open at 7:00AM. Sit inside or outside, table service, or carry out, it is all wonderful food. The first morning I order just a breakfast (Mc)muffin, to find out for them it is a four egg omelet with cheese in a sandwich with sausage. Powering down the second morning ordering a la carte and still a challenge. Did I mention that the waiter, same one each day, owns your time when you are there, be prepared to participate. Highly recommended for food, ambiance, and charming service.

“The competition is pretty fierce”
Reviewed 28 April 2014

Our salads were good but not outstanding. Unfortunately this is like being just okay in New Orleans. It's not good enough. You could do better, except for the focaccia bread, which was great. I ate too much of that!!

Excellent breakfast! starts at 7:30am. The orange sliced cannolies are awesome. The omeletts are yummy and huge.

“Best Desserts!”
Reviewed 1 February 2014

Cafe Zucchero was my favorite part of San Diego! When we moved to Boston, the first place I looked for was something similar to Cafe Zucchero.
