Description: Joe and Frank Busalacchi created this Italian Cafe'-style concept, and you'll find that this delightful setting gets attention around the clock. Casual and spirited food is served. Breakfast, Lunch and dinner are served daily. Diners enjoy lingering over coffee and sumptuous desserts created by pastry maker Frank who was trained by a Sicilian master. Whether you are in the mood for pizza, pasta, seafood, chicken, or veal, this is the place. Also, make sure you treat your sweet tooth to one of the sinful desserts. Here you'll find some of the most incredible delectables not found anywhere else in San Diego. You would have to go to Sicily to find items such as the cassata Sicilian, "the cake of Sicily," a beautiful creation of marzipan, sponge cake, ricotta, and fruits with a pretty floral design. It, like the pastries, desserts, and gelato, is made fresh on the premises. There's more: try the arancini, a fried golden brown rice ball filled with meat or mozzarella cheese, or sample the calzone or brioche filled with meat or peas. After your meal you also simply must try the homemade gelato, featured in flavors such as, pistachio, strawberry, hazelnut, chocolate chip, or limone.Cafe' Zucchero's menu lists fine panini (sandwiches) such as the Italiano with eggplant, mozzarella cheese, and extra virgin olive oil, or the pollo (with grilled chicken, onions, avocado, and tomato). There are a few pasta/risotto dishes - try the pasta with Italian sausage, capers, olives, and tomatoes. The contadina also is a good choice.

“Loved This!”
Reviewed 31 July 2014

I may have tried every item in the baked goods case, plus the gelato. The Panini for breakfast was very filling for less than seven bucks. The singing on Wednesday evening really make it feel like an Italian block party. Staff is lovely, prices are great. The macaroons, mmmm!

“Great food and atmosphere”
Reviewed 29 July 2014 via mobile

Wow....this is the second time I have eaten here and I have no idea about the last persons negative review. I think it is a little suspect. My husband and our two adult sons ate here early on a Friday night. Calamari for an appetizer was very fresh, not the best I've ever had but very good. One son had veal parm he had never had it before... He ate it all. My other son had a seafood pasta dish -- he loved it, I had eggplant parm. I thought the sauce was great. My husband had the short rib with risotto and yes I had some bites.. It was excellent. I will attach the photo. My oldest son had an Italian beer, it was very good. We all had canolis for desert and I have yet to find a better cannoli. I don't think you will be sorry.
Service was pretty good, weren't too up on the water and iced tea refills.

“Authentic feel but not food”
Reviewed 15 July 2014

This looks like authentic Italian with Italian guys sitting in front and the owner singing for intertainment but the food was mediocre at best. Marinara sauce was out of a can and the bread was dry pizza crust. The chicken parmesan was dry and tasteless. Try the restaurant next door.

“Very tasty”

Was looking for a nice snack after a day at the beach. We definitely found it here. The pastries were fresh and the flavors were great.

“A Taste of Italy”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

The gelato was as good as you will find in Italy. The pastries are both beautiful and delicious. The atmosphere is very welcoming and the staff was very friendly.
