“anniversary stay”
Reviewed 26 August 2014

The hotel itself was very nice, loved the bed. Room was very large, loved you could open the windows. Did not like the decor, the stainless steel sink counters were too sterile, industrail looking for our taste, did'nt like the black walls in the hall ways either. Loved the exposed brick walls and the window seats were great, the couch and chair looked very 60's. The staff was great .We were on the 3rd floor in the Gaslamp dist. very loud from the nightclubs and all the people partying.Dog friendly which is the most important to us.The rainfall shower head was wonderful.Big thick bath towels.Even with all the noise I would stay here again.

Room Tip: we were in the front of the hotel maybe rooms in the back would be quieter but I doubt it hotel has...

Hi 2loosCruz -

The Keating Team hopes that you had a wonderful time celebrating your Anniversary here in San Diego. Thank you so much for all of the feedback. The Chic Loft Suite does offer some great views of downtown with all of those windows! Maybe next year you will have a chance to return to the Keating to celebrate your anniversary once again. Have a great week!

The staff was very helpful, directions & where to eat. Conveniently located to everything. Room was huge, bed was great, great view. As the rep advised they are changing out the windows. It was a bit noisy for the party goers. Breakfast was great. We would go back again. Quaint, awesome boutique hotel. Much more romantic then a "big-box" hotel. The only complaint we had is the cost of parking. We found "Park it on Market" for less then half the price 2 blocks away- Looking forward to returning

Hi Denise!

The Keating definitely takes pride in being Downtown's only luxury, boutique hotel. Being a 35 room property allows us to provide personalized guest service. In regards to the valet fees we do charge much less than most hotels in downtown. We like our guests to have the option of safe and secure parking in our parking garage. Thank you so much for your kind words!

sound asleep until 2:05 AM. The bar next door closes and gathers in the room above mine. At 4 AM the noise is still going after several complaints to management. I drag myself down to the area where I can get internet access, after paying for WiFi in my room, and book a room in a different nearby hotel. Still no contact from the Keating to apologize or refund my ruined night. My guess is that many others had their nights ruined as well but my room was sonic chaos. Great in-room stereos have that drawback when management permits drunken invasions at closing time.

Great boutique hotel! In-room amenities were a nice surprise and the room was very comfortable. Loved the unique and personal touches. Will definitely stay at this hotel again when in the area and would highly recommend it to others!

Hotel looks downtrodden. Concrete floor in the room did not cut it. No lobby, bad workout room and way overpriced. My room was above a noisy pub but the entire neighborhood is noisy with nightlife. Furniture is dated and beat up. Cable and channel selection on TV was bad.

Hi Bruce -

I am disappointed to hear that you did not enjoy your stay at The Keating. You mentioned the concrete floors in the room. The floors are actually sprayed with an epoxy and are done in a "Battleship Gray" color to evoke the colors of the amazing battleships docked in San Diego's waters. The floors were installed because they are actually more hygienic than carpet. We are able to clean them thoroughly for every guest that stays with us. Thank you for your feedback and I do hope that you were able to enjoy your time in San Diego.

The recommended hotels for a conference was full, and we stumbled upon this hotel by chance. It is only a 15 minute walk to the SD conference facilities. The hotel is ideally situated close to restaurants in the Gaslamp district. The streets are noisy at night, but the hotels is almost 100% sound proof. We stayed in the penthouse suite (G) which I would highly recommend. It has a great copper tub, and a lovely living room. The bed was comfortable and the hotel clean. The hotel is almost 125 years old, but newly renovated inside with contemporary showers, and bathrooms. The staff at the front desk was great, specially Liz. We also met another staff member, Magarite, who was born in Spain. When she heard that we were planning a vacation there, she took time to write a full page of recommended places to visit, eat and stay. This fell outside her duties but made a great impression on us. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this stay.

Room Tip: Penthouse suites are great value for money.

Good Morning Aletta!

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! You were lucky enough to have booked our Macallan Suite! The suite was designed by the fine people at Macallan Scotch. That copper wrapped tub is actually meant to reflect the copper stills that are used by Macallan to create their amazing Scotch Whiskey. You also mentioned that the building is 125 years old. We will in fact be celebrating the hotel's 125th anniversary in 2015. This will be a year long celebration at The Keating so we hope that you have a chance to come back and celebrate!

I loved this hotel and the staff. The room was HUGE, modern and an oasis from the Gaslight District right outside the hotel. The staff was all-smiles. There's a jar of sunglasses in the lobby, in case you need to buy a pair. Free popcorn in the lobby and treats at night in your room are always a way to a guest's heart. I will be back!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the inside if you don't like to hear the street noise. But even if you don'...
