We stayed at The Sofia over the 4th of July weekend, and had a fantastic time. It was our first time in San Diego, and although we heard the Gaslamp district was very touristy, we were being tourists anyways, so it was conveniently located. It's two blocks from the train station (which we took from L.A), one block away from a ZipCar location (which we used to drive the Coastal Highway one afternoon), close to buses and trolleys, and not a bad hike to Petco Park or the harbor.
The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Check-in and check-out were convenient, they had lots of advice on how to get places and what to do. The room was a comfortable size, although it faced a brick wall, so it was pretty dark most of the time, which was about the only downside since we were trying to enjoy sunny California!
We enjoyed our stay in San Diego so much that we wanted to stay an extra night - not only did they accommodate us on a weekend, but they price-matched it to what we paid the night before, saving us a lot of money.
I would definitely return to this hotel the next time we visit!More
