We should have known when the restaurant only had a few diners when we walked in. The beef taco tasted awful. We could not eat it. The waitress was curt and not helpful. This location has really went down hill. Will not be back.

I had been here some years ago, so when all the places in old town S.D. were bursting at the seams, I thought let's have dinner at Tio Leo's. What a mistake. It should have been a warning that the place was only 25% full when we walked in. If you ask me to describe the atmosphere and decor, well, this is how I would assume a North Korean place looks like: completely void of any atmosphere. Think corporate cafeteria. The live salsa music that was advertised never materialized. Now, the food: the portions are huge, may be justifying the higher than usual price. But the chicken tasted terribly, and the carne asada (I had a combo) was somewhat weird. Service was pretty slow, even though there were almost no guests. Well, I won't be back either.

Our family enjoyed Cinco de Mayo Sunday brunch at Tio Leo's off Morena Blvd, near Old Town. Service was great but the complimentary salsa and chips served pre-meal were outstanding - hot, light chips without too much salt and very crisp. Salsa was also tasty and each of our party of 3 got their own salsa dish.

Brunch items were all good, but pretty standard dishes for Old Town area Mexican restaurants. Quantities were quite large and we had left-overs to take home for lunch. They do charge extra for champagne at Tio Leo's, where some places it is included with the meal. Overall we all thought our meals were good and would return again.

While the food was good Mexican lunch fare, the service was outstanding. The waitstaff was attentive and friendly, luring me back for a second lunch the next day. The chile relleno was the best choice, the quesedilla was a little greasy.
