“Amazing - Hospitality, Amenities, and Thoughtfulness”
Reviewed 17 February 2014

We have stayed in a several world class hotels and resorts, and this is top of the class. We stayed for three nights with our 2 young children (9, 5) and had the most gracious interactions with all staff (from manager, to busboy, to valet, to concierge, to cafe and restaurant staff). I rarely give reviews and will not be wordy -- I just wanted to throw my support behind this jewel and am certain that my wife and I or our entire family will be coming back to stay when we can.

I will not go into all the details of the grounds, the rooms, the finishing touches, etc., but it compares in several ways with the best Rosewood Resorts and Aman Resorts - although very accessible, inviting, and really a compelling value in terms of price. And there is no nickel and diming that many resorts somehow get caught up in. I highly recommend The Grand.

My wife and I live in San Diego and I used to ride my mountain bike through this area on my way to Qualcomm when it was just open land. Now it has this hotel from a bygone era that seems like you are transported to a magnificent European hotel where cost was no object. The entrance has a guard booth where the person inside is trained to come out and wave to everyone who passes through which I thought was a nice gesture.

My wife, who is a corporate lawyer, used this hotel in the beginning as her go to place to bring clients since it was such a gorgeous place to visit. She also had firm events here since there were so many different types of rooms and ball rooms there. They even have a chapel in one of the floors. Everything feels high end and there is an attention to detail that one would not expect from a hotel right in the middle of the suburbs. Although it is a gated suburb with a fantastic golf course. There is even the option of getting fractional villas which are gigantic at 4,000 sq ft.

We normally eat at Amaya Bistro when we are here just for fun and don't want to go all out with Addison, their 5 star restaurant. We have been to Addison a couple of times and the food was amazing but a bit on the pricey side so you can't make it a regular thing. However, their tasting menu is one of the best I have eaten and I am a food snob. One of our yearly traditions for the past 4 or 5 years is to come here for Christmas eve and use their lounge like our tapas area, getting all the various items on the lounge menu and share it with my extended family. Once I saw that they had a proper afternoon tea service but you have to reserve that ahead of time since it is a popular thing.

I once bought my wife a day spa package for her birthday and she loved it. You get to use their gym, then you have the massage and facial, then you get a healthy lunch. She said it was a great day.

I have had a chance to actually stay in one of the rooms and they are very opulent with a nice size room and marble bathrooms. Once my daughter had a birthday where we stayed in one of their suites since there were five other girls and it was very nice. You were able to open the bathroom to the living room so you had a view from your tub of the beautifully appointed room next to the bathroom.

Just to give you an idea of how famous this hotel is, LeBron James chose to have his wedding here and he could have gone any where in the world with the money they pay him to play basketball.

What an amazing experience! Room was 5 star all the way! Staff super courteous and the hotel is massive and beautiful! Out in the middle of nowhere so the only surprise was they charge for parking! Felt a little taken advantage of there; it's not like a hotel in the city where space is limited. Considering the room was $500+ a night couldn't they throw in parking?

This review is mainly to the Duty Manager and General Manager of the hotel.

We were staying at the hotel on 2/8/2014, at room 145 and 146. When we checkout on 2/9/2014 morning around 8am. We left the luggage for bell-boy to pick up and store at front desk while we can have breakfast at Amaya. Prior to drop off, all Rimowa suitcases were in good shape. Upon leaving, the bell-boy loaded all luggage into our car so we didn't feel the need to check. When we arrived at airport around 10am to off-load, we were shocked to see one of the suitcase is majorly broken on the edge and clothes can fell off from suitcase. We had to re-arrange the suitcases at airport and was a big trouble.

The suitcase belong to my parents who are traveling out of the country the day after, you can imagine how much hassle it has caused the elders and it left a bad ending to our San Diego trip. The Rimowa suitcase is not an old purchase either and it is not fragile, so we are wondering how carefulness the bell-boy is, and how irresponsible he acted for not notifying us!

It's a beautiful hotel, we could have enjoy it a lot more if this never happened. I hope this can be resolved, and I truly think you need to re-train your staff at all levels.

thank you
linda S.

The attention to detail is 2nd to none. You will looooove this place. It is beautiful!! It was a bit cool to enjoy the pool and outdoors but VERY NICE. FOOD was very good as well. AWESOME. AWESOME. The place is absolute the most spectacular hotel and resort I've ever stayed in, including international resorts. It is flawless--from the service, staff training, condition, food, amenities, and location. The hotel is so magnificent that there is no area where the standard drops, such as in your room, the hallway, or a bathroom in the far end of the hotel. Not so much as a scuff on the baseboard can be found. I tried to find things wrong with it and came up with really short list: (i) no dressing rooms accompany the pools; (ii) they shine a large flood light on to the golf course at night which is completely not needed and tacky. They do have free parking if you self park, so you don't feel like they are trying to nickle and dime. GREAT PLACE.

Room Tip: Choose the south side in winter; north in summer

This luxury resort offers everything a fine property should have. From the attentive staff, to the beautiful grounds, the luxurious rooms and gorgeous common areas this is an uncompromising location to enjoy yourself and relax. While certainly not inexpensive everything here is far above average. The pools are beautiful, the golf course challenging and array of options for relaxation and action are great.

The rooms are opulent with marble bathrooms featuring soaking tubs, separate showers and double vanities not to mention a separate toilet alcove with a door and phone. My room had a great view of the surrounding hills and golf course and featured a very nice king bed, corner couch, flat screen TV and free Wi-Fi.

The only small drawback to this property is a lack of moderate priced dining especially later at night but this is a small price to pay for staying in the lap of luxury.

The resort offers an equestrian center, fitness classes, walking and seashore tours as well as complimentary rides within a 12 mile radius of the hotel for just a tip. Truly a great service if you do not want to drive.
