“Resort feel, great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 July 2014

The total property was recently refurbished. It's fresh and current. We had extended stays this 4th of July and last. All rooms have balconies and grat views of Coronado/downtown or the Marina. The reservation, front desk, and rooms staffs were very courteous and responsive. The food and beverage people were also friendly and provided good service...until the 4th of July and then it was atrocious. It was not the fault of the staff. The restaurant was terribly understaffed, both last year and this. The service was agonizingly slow. This year, for a dinner party of 7 the dishes came out sporadically, the adults before the children, and one order not at all. There were other management issues. They have a very high value menu for their happy hour. The welcoming letter said "Happy hour Monday trough Friday from 4 to 7 pm. We invited friends to join us only to be told there is no happy hour on the 4th of July. The welcome letter also said that the included breakfast, normally served from 7am to 10 am was served till 10:30 weekends and holidays. So, on the 4th, observing the breakfast area was very busy, my wife and I decided to take a walk on the beach before eating. When we came back at 10:10 we found the breakfast items had been removed. I was told that, if in fact they were supposed to serve until 10:30, no one had informed the kitchen. In summary, I highly recommend this hotel; but I would avoid staying when they require an extended stay (It means they will be full and they don't staff for it) or plan on eating meals (except breakfast) off property.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the Marina are quieter...particularly the suites

We have stayed at the Bay Club for over two decades (regularly one or two times a year). It has been by far our preferred hotel in San Diego. Location, view and service have always been aspects which have attracted us back time and time again. Bay Club has undergone a remodel, and it is very attractive; however we feel the rooms seem to have lost some of their warmth with the loss of carpet and replacement of imitation wood flooring. Call us old fashioned! In any case, we will plan to return to this superior hotel regularly again in the future.

Room Tip: Our room was on the Marina side, but was a little too close to the lobby and bar--a little noisy for...

We try to stay at The Bay Club Hotel & Marina every time we go to San Diego. It feels like our home away from home. The people are always so friendly, the rooms are very comfortable, and the breakfasts are generous. We like being able to walk to dinner to Pomodoro or Mitch's Seafood on Point Loma.

The staff was friendly and very accomodating. Nice large and comfortable room with sliding glass doors to balcony. Property is getting ready to update rooms. This Shelter Island location was very convenient by car to all the San Diego area attractions we wanted to visit.

Room Tip: Good view from both the Bayside and the Marina side rooms. All rooms have balconies.

This is not a spectacular place but it is really nice. The best views are facing the marina. The front faces Coronado island and you can see downtown San Diego off in the distance.

We were told they just recently updated the hotel but I really didn't see signs of it. We stayed 3 nights and not once did someone clean our room. We left at 9am got back at 3:00 and they still hadn't done our room. That was disappointing.

There is a small breakie included in the room price. Sausages, eggs, bacon, juice, coffee. More than a standard continental breakfast. You can eat inside or out on the deck facing the gorgeous marina.

The price is cheaper then staying in San Diego. I would still recommend this hotel as it does it right. Make sure you get a room on the second floor facing the marina. Otherwise you will be quite disappointed.

This hotel on Shelter Island is also only a 15 minute drive into San Diego and Seaport Village. So many places to visit.

Room Tip: There is a room on the second floor that has views over the pool and the marina. But it make get no...

Lovely service and location, but simply abysmal bathrooms. I know renovations are in the works but I simply cannot pay over $200 for a room where I don't feel comfortable taking a shower. Bad food and extremely slow service at onsite restaurant.
I had high hopes based on other reviews. We frequently stay in San Diego--probably once a month--and wanted to try out a different area. This was a bust though and we won't be back.

Our third visit to San Diego and our second time staying at bay club marina because the rooms are large with balcony overlooking the marina very peacefull and quiet and over the road is the bay for a lovely walk. Also depending on where your departing from the airport and pier are not far away.

Room Tip: Ask for marina view.
