“Great stay with beautiful views”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2014

We stayed 4 nights on the 2nd floor w a fantastic bay view from the balcony. Breakfast was delicious and enjoyed outside seating each morning facing the marina and mountain. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean but bath area is a little dated. Beds are comfortable. Wished they had a microwave in room. Hotel location is close to restaurants, grocery store and Starbucks. Great running/ walking path along barrier island. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Get a room on the second floor facing the Bay for a fantastic view.

Lovely, large rooms with very comfortable beds. The bathroom area is spacious and well lit. The toiletries were very nice. I really loved the body lotion. The coffee makers are the new one cup makers. Coffee is also available in the lobby area in the morning. The housekeepers are excellent and our rooms were kept nicely clean and made-up every day (we stayed six nights). Rooms have refrigerators and microwaves are available. Our son and his family needed to heat up a meal for their kids one night and a microwave oven was delivered quickly. The service at this hotel is superb!

Breakfast is included with the room rate. While the selection is not expansive, the food is good quality. We ate breakfast at the hotel every morning of our stay. It is really convenient. Again, the service is excellent!

My only complaint is parking. The spaces are tight and we had to rent a minivan as we had six people in our group. However, we always managed to find a space and park each day.

The location is good for getting to all the major San Diego attractions. (A GPS is a must! Bring your own from home.)

Room Tip: If you are sensitive to noise, don't choose rooms 144 or 146 (marina side) as their balconies ar...

This hotel is so quaint and easy to love. The marina is on one side and the San Diego Bay is on the other. No matter what side of the hotel you stay on, you have a beautiful view. We always stay on the marina side, it is so relaxing to sit out on your little patio and watch the boats and the view of Point Loma is breathtaking. It is also so much fun to watch the fireworks every night that are coming from Sea World. The rooms have had a great renovation done since the last time we were there. The rooms are very nice sized and you never feel like you are on top of each other. Not too sure about the new tile floors, but I am sure that is for sanitary purposes. Overall, this is one of our favorite hotels in San Diego, we love Shelter Island and your hotel is a real gem...Will come back and will definitely stay with you.

Room Tip: Room on the Marina side are great, the view is amazing and it is peaceful..

We stayed 3 nights in late June. We are a family of 4 and our "partial-view" room was located on the first floor, near the end of the corridor. The view was of the parking lot in front of the hotel, with the bay behind it. It was fine for us as we spent very little time in our room - or at the hotel for that matter - so we didn't mind the limited view, and we appreciated the lesser price. It also made it very quiet in that area of the hotel, with little traffic in the corridor. The room was clean and large. The breakfast was good, with eggs, sausage, bread, cereals, etc., and we enjoyed eating it outside on the balcony overlooking the beautiful marina. The location is away from downtown San Diego, but this hotel was much cheaper to what was available in the Gaslamp district, and in the end, we were happy to have stayed away from the hustle and bustle, especially since it only takes about 15 minutes to get to Shelter Island from the mainland. I had to print tickets and I was able to use a computer and printer in the lobby (near the front entrance) which is there for customers' use (15 minutes); this was very handy. The hotel should do away with charging $5/day for parking but it was not a real irritant; free wi-fi more than made up for it. Overall, we had a very nice time and I would recommend this hotel.

Our family stayed 2 nights with 2 rooms in the hotel. The rooms are spacious and clean. We had 1 Marina view room and 1 bay view room. Both views are nice. We enjoyed the morning views from the breakfast area very much. Besides the nice views, the hotel is in a good location that is close to different attractions. The front desk ladies are nice and helpful

Few things to be noted:
. If you are an allergic person, you may experience allergy issue. The musty/salty room smell made my throat irritated all the time. My son had red eyes after.
. The buffet style breakfast is good, but they have a server to serve the food...feel like they want to control the quantity of the food; plates often run out without replacing on time.

Overall, it's a great stay.

Room Tip: Ask for the 2nd floor to get better view especially for the room facing the bay side, or you will se...

The total property was recently refurbished. It's fresh and current. We had extended stays this 4th of July and last. All rooms have balconies and grat views of Coronado/downtown or the Marina. The reservation, front desk, and rooms staffs were very courteous and responsive. The food and beverage people were also friendly and provided good service...until the 4th of July and then it was atrocious. It was not the fault of the staff. The restaurant was terribly understaffed, both last year and this. The service was agonizingly slow. This year, for a dinner party of 7 the dishes came out sporadically, the adults before the children, and one order not at all. There were other management issues. They have a very high value menu for their happy hour. The welcoming letter said "Happy hour Monday trough Friday from 4 to 7 pm. We invited friends to join us only to be told there is no happy hour on the 4th of July. The welcome letter also said that the included breakfast, normally served from 7am to 10 am was served till 10:30 weekends and holidays. So, on the 4th, observing the breakfast area was very busy, my wife and I decided to take a walk on the beach before eating. When we came back at 10:10 we found the breakfast items had been removed. I was told that, if in fact they were supposed to serve until 10:30, no one had informed the kitchen. In summary, I highly recommend this hotel; but I would avoid staying when they require an extended stay (It means they will be full and they don't staff for it) or plan on eating meals (except breakfast) off property.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the Marina are quieter...particularly the suites

We have stayed at the Bay Club for over two decades (regularly one or two times a year). It has been by far our preferred hotel in San Diego. Location, view and service have always been aspects which have attracted us back time and time again. Bay Club has undergone a remodel, and it is very attractive; however we feel the rooms seem to have lost some of their warmth with the loss of carpet and replacement of imitation wood flooring. Call us old fashioned! In any case, we will plan to return to this superior hotel regularly again in the future.

Room Tip: Our room was on the Marina side, but was a little too close to the lobby and bar--a little noisy for...
