“Great location; kind, friendly staff.”

This was our first trip to San Diego and our first stay at the Bay Club. What a great place! It is not a new hotel (which we didn't want) but has been well cared for and has retained a ton of marina/ beach charm. Standouts for us: not a lot of kids, very quiet, very friendly and helpful staff who seemed to genuinely care and enjoy their jobs, excellent free breakfast, easy parking, good location (a bonus was the live music show from the venue next door that we got to listen to while in the hot tub), great pool and hot tub, laundry facilities, free wi-fi. An excellent value and find. We will definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Bay side rooms look out onto the street and bay, marina side rooms look out onto the marina and pool...

Excellent staff - very friendly and informative. Told us about a marathon going on the next day when a cross street would be blocked while runners were coming through.
Great location - Shelter Island was great! Downtown San Diego, Sea World, Point Loma, etc. were about a 10 minute drive.
Spectacular view - Downtown San Diego was just across the water and VERY beautiful to see the sunrise over in the morning. The other side of the hotel looked over the marina, which was also wonderful (could see this from the breakfast / dining area).
Spacious room - Our room was very spacious, the bed was comfortable, the tv was big, and we had a patio to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

We stayed 3 nights. Our last night, the hotel next door (Humphrey's) had a concert going on. We could hear the concert from our patio, but once inside our room, with the air conditioner on, we couldn't hear the noise.

Room Tip: 2nd floor room for the best views!

On a recent family vacation we sought out a convenient family friendly hotel and ultimately selected the Bay Club Hotel & Marina. The primary attractions for us included location on the water, convenient to downtown being located on Shelter Island, free parking, free breakfast, free wi-fi and solid reviews from other travelers. We opted for a marina view which was a nice touch, versus looking out over the parking lot, over a street, another parking lot and ultimately the bay an and a view to the city. The rooms were clean, the beds were very comfortable, the stay gracious and the breakfast was solid. The only concern was that the next door facility, Humphrey's, has an outdoor concert area and the music was quite loud. However, at 10:00 p.m. it shut down so we were able to get a good nights sleep. The facility is a bit dated but the other issues more than made up for it. We would recommend the Bay Club and would have no reservations about returning.

Stayed in room 272, a room with a wide view of the marina. My wife and I like staying here because it is next to the concert venue and an extremely convenient 90 second stroll away. We've also had the privilege of being on the marina side each time so we get the quietness of the bay. The only thing missing this time was locks on the windows. There is a sliding door and 3 sliding windows. The door had a lock but the sliding windows did not. They just slid open very easily. Also, the inside drape over the sliding door was missing the wand to pull it shut. I found the wand on the floor with the screw that was supposed to hold it in place. I was able to affix the wand to the drape as it was supposed to be and it worked fine. I'm not sure why a housekeeper wouldn't have pointed that out so it could be fixed. A room like this (assuming the windows had locks and the drape had a wand) in Newport Beach would be 3 times the cost. The Bay Club is a great deal.

Room Tip: Room 272 has a great view of the marina and only shares a hallway with the room next door.

My husband and I stayed at the Bay Club 4 nights last week. It is a small, quiet hotel in a nice location on Shelter Island. Easy drive to anywhere in San Diego. A couple of nice restaurants on Shelter Island but no shops to visit, unless you own a boat! The people were very nice, from the front desk to the bartenders and servers. A couple of things should be noted. The pool was never cleaned in the 4 days that we were there, the bottom was very dirty the entire week which prevented us from enjoying it. Upon check in our TV was not working, but maintenance promptly came in an reset it. Our sliding glass door was very dirty and my husband took it upon himself to clean it the best he could. In 4 days housekeeping never so much as wiped off the glass door. We also spent a day at the beach and spilled out sand on the dresser, it was never even wiped up. We also inquired about a screen door so that we could enjoy the nice breeze from the marina side. We were told only 3 rooms have screens. I would think they hotel would save a bundle on air conditioning costs by providing a screen door that we would have certainly left open rather than constantly run the air conditioning. The breakfast was fine. It was food and it was included but certainly could use a lot of improvement. The free Wi-Fi was just plain terrible. I spent way to much time trying to get a connection and rarely ever could. The main elevator (there are only 2) went out of service on wed am and when we left on Friday it was still not working. All that being said, these were all small things and certainly did not spoil any part of our stay.

The room was spacious and clean. I loved the white duvet bedcover. Made the room seem extra bright. It was a midweek stay so there was plenty of parking and no traffic. I enjoyed sitting outside on the balcony with the chips, salsa, and Corona's you brought to the room. Weather could not have been nicer. Watched the ships float by in the evening breeze. Loved staying here and would recommend it.
