We visit San Diego often and we feel like the catamaran is our second home . We love the bay. It's a great place to SUP board , let the little ones swim and most of all just be able to relax with your toes in the sand . We love the pool . You can order yummy drinks and food . The spa is beautiful and relaxing ... And let's not forget the beautiful birds that will say hello to you when you pass by . We especially love channeler!
Always sad leaving .. Can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Bay front suites are our family favorite. You can walk right onto the sand if you have a bottom roo...

My husband and I just stayed there for our anniversary. Thursday nights they have lots of fun things to do. They have a wonderful boardwalk bazaar, a boat ride, and polynesian dancers too. The hotel upgraded our room for our anniversary and it was a beautiful room. We got up in the morning and went to a free yoga class on the grass. Everything was set up for us, towels and mats, and water. It was an excellent class. Following that, we had a lovely breakfast in the restaurant with great service and fantastic food! They had a great pool area. Kids were having lots of fun there. The staff was very friendly, the hotel grounds are beautiful, and we can't wait to go back again.

Room Tip: We were on the bayside on the 11th floor and it was very nice and quiet. The only downside was the...

We visited this hotel for four days at the end if a lovely trip down California and it was the perfect ending.
The hotel is right on the beach and is perfectly situated and the staff are very helpful
The breakfast and meals are lovely and the rooms great.
One thing: our room wasn't cleaned one day and by the time we told them it was too late but never mind
Super.

Location is awesome- you are right across from Belmont Park which has a cute little carnival style park, the beach and boardwalk and plenty of restaurants. On the property you have the bay and a nice little sand area that the kids can play on as if they are at the beach. Keep in mind that the bay gets deep very fast and this is not an area for kids to go in the water however you can rent water bikes, kayaks, water skiing and sailing along with paddleboards- plenty to play in the bay. The sand area is perfect for the kids to play and build castles. They have a restaurant and bar area right off the sand and in the evenings you can see the firework show from Sea World. Also the Luau is super fun and something very unique for this hotel and a great outing for the family!! They also offer a booze cruise after 10P that adults only can take around the harbor and early day until 9P the boat will take the family around the harbor- another fun added perk to the hotel.
The room themselves are a bit small and dated however I think everything else helps make this reasonable. The shower water pressure was very good (a HUGE plus for people with long hair!). All the staff was helpful and friendly.
Although I prefer suite rooms for the added space and ability to sit on a couch to watch TV at the end of the day- this hotel was very nice and I would come back and recommend it to all- romantic and families alike. It really is perfect location for tourism as well with Sea World minutes away, the Zoo about 20 minutes away and downtown convention center also about 15 - 20 minutes away.

Room Tip: If you have little kids I recommend the bay front suites as your patio opens to a nice large green b...

A garden view studio on the 11th floor with walkout patio/chairs provided a beautiful view of the sunset over Pacific Beach every evening! This room allowed my wife I and two teenagers to be in the same room with surprising space. It allowed us to eat hot breakfast every morning with the in-room kitchen. Range, micro, toaster, frig/frzr, and cooking utensils. At 2k for a peak summer 7-nights, this was a great find in the most unbeatable of locations.

Excellent pool area, Clean and helpful, and 1 block from Mission Beach/Pacific Beach. The bayside beach looked incredible and the activities the hotel put on there are endless, but we liked the Oceanside and casually spent all of our beach time there.

Our room was on the lower end $$$ wise. I would assume the upgraded rooms are spectacular. High marks all around.

The restaurant was good for breakfast as well as dinner. Really cosy sitting outside after dinner with the torches lit and enjoying cocktails. Servers were alert and pleasant. Nice pool area. There is a waterfall in the reception. It makes so much noise that it was difficult to talk with the receptionists. We had two rooms, one on the first floor and one on the ground floor in the building behind the reception. The room on the ground floor had a damp smell.

The Catamaran has always been the closest thing to Hawaii and Polynesia to be found on the mainland, but their Sunset Luau was even better than any we've attended in the islands. From the Roast Pig carried to the serving area to the wonderful food to the marvelous show, this tops anything we've run across. The show was outstanding with 10 wonderful musicians and about 15 performers. The show featured dances from the many islands in Polynesia. Only the Polynesian Cultural Center on Oahu had more of a cast and crew.

Everyone in the cast or associated with the hotel was happy and smiling. As I looked around the guests were also happy. Rebecca Baumwirt made us feel very welcome and happy and made sure we were having a good time.

I've not stayed at the Catamaran before but have been to several conventions there (including a couple I helped arrange). The same friendly attitude is always present and Rebecca B. is masterful in arranging meetings and tending to the details. I've recommended the Catamaran to both friends and business associates. The entire hotel makes you feel you've left your cares behind to travel to an island paradise (but with excellent Audio/Visual and convention services).

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
One of the few resorts on Mission Bay to not charge a resort fee! The Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa is a paradisiacal destination located on the shores of Mission Bay and mere steps from San Diego’s famous Pacific Beach. With features including lush tropical gardens and private beach, this Polynesian-themed hotel offers an ideal blend of fun and tranquility all year-round. Established in 1958, the Catamaran is a paradise featuring more than 1,000 varieties of exotic plants and animals from around the world. Palm trees, bamboo, waterfalls and koi ponds appeal to the senses, while playful parrots delight and intrigue guests. The Catamaran’s architecture, reminiscent of the traditional Colonial Hawaiian style, boasts accents including totem poles handcrafted in Bali, art pieces such as tapa cloth from Vanuatu and a beautiful front desk constructed of Black Koa wood imported directly from Tahiti. At the Catamaran, guests are checked into one of 310 guest rooms, studios or suites, each with a private balcony or patio that opens to stunning views of Mission Bay, the Pacific Beach neighborhood and coastline, or the hotel’s lush tropical gardens. All guests are provided a full range of amenities including complimentary Wi-Fi and 24-hour room service. On-site dining options include Oceana Coastal Kitchen, rated by Zagat as one of San Diego’s most anticipated restaurants of 2015 and featuring chef-driven surf and turf dishes. Next door to this signature restaurant is Moray’s, where guests can sip on a signature Moray’s Mai Tai, savor a local craft beer and enjoy daily happy hour specials. Both venues feature a blend of indoor and patio spaces, the latter lined with tiki torches, fire pit tables and lush palms. Guests may also choose to grab a bite poolside at the Catamaran’s full bar and grill which serves up barbecue favorites during the spring and summer months. Another standout summer special is the Catamaran’s signature luaus, featuring live performers that guide guests through the cultures of the South Pacific as they enjoy a Hawaiian buffet. Those who prefer to spend their time on the water can opt for a cruise on the Bahia Belle, a replica of an 1860s-era sternwheeler that tours around Mission Bay. Step back in time and enjoy a colorful sunset from the top deck, or kick up your heels as the vessel becomes a vibrant nightlife destination with live entertainment and a full-service bar. The Catamaran Spa—the only beachfront spa in San Diego—offers a South Pacific-inspired menu of treatments including massages, facials, body wraps, hydrotherapy treatments and more—carried out with all-natural marine and botanical elements. Additional wellness amenities include an outdoor pool and hot tub, beach cabanas, an open air fitness center, seasonal outdoor yoga classes and more. Further vacation activities include rental paddleboards, sailboats, kayaks, surfboards, bicycles and Segways. The Catamaran is also located within the beach towns Mission Beach and Pacific Beach, where guests can stroll the boardwalk or the iconic Crystal Pier, play at the beach or experience a variety of cafes and boutiques. The resort is also within 10 miles of major San Diego attractions such as SeaWorld, the San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park, Downtown’s Gaslamp District and the San Diego International Airport. ... more   less
