“Perfect Family Getaway with Kids”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 September 2011

Stayted here July/August. This place was perfect for a family getaway with our twin 2.5 year olds. We booked a room in the main tower (they are not clear on the website - I believe they are the rooms that are listed as Deluxe Queen Ocean View) and my kids loved it! You can see the ocean, the marina with boats, AND the fireworks from Sea World every night at 9:50pm. Request a high floor.

The grounds are perfect if you are with little kids. There are little nooks where you can hang out and read and the kids can run around safely. The pool is also perfect for kids; especially the water slide. The big fire pit was fantastic at nights and my boys loved making their first Smores! Red Marlin is great - amazing food, decor, service, and they know how to treat families with young children.

The $5 per adult boat ride to Sea World is a MUST (The hotel has its own boat that takes you there). First of all, that alone is an experience for the kids. Secondly, you get a VIP back door entrance and avoid the crowds. Note that you have to have pre-purchased Sea World tickets though to get in through that entrance. Last, the "captains" were fantastic and would stop or slow down so the kids could sea the seals, pelicans, etc.

Oh, and with a AAA discount we saved over $30 a night! Another note: We drove 10 minutes to Downtown San Diego and spent one evening there, eating and walking and we also caught the Sea World fireworks from there. Came back to the hotel, made Smores, and hit the sack.

Look, this is not a 5 star hotel, but it gets 5 stars in my review because it was everything that we wanted and needed for a family vacation. I would even come back here with my wife sans kids.

Room Tip: Deluxe Queen Ocean View in Main Tower - High Floor

I am so excited that you had such a fantastic experience at our property. It sounds like you and your family had a terrific view from your Deluxe View room. Our property has stunning views of both the ocean and marina. I am thrilled that your twins were able to have their first Smores experience at our property. We have several different activities for both adults and kids. Whether it’s going down the waterslides or getting a massage at the spa our guests are going to have several activities to choose from. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. We look forward to welcoming you back to our property in the future!

We came down for a short four day stay and to go to Seaworld. This hotel has a water taxi for a modest fee (I think it was $5 per adult) that will take you there, which is really nice. You go to the back entrance and do not have to fight any crowds or parking. ***TIP: buy your sea world tickets thru the hotel, and the one day ticket, sold at a discount, is good for SEVEN days. This means you can leave when the kids get cranky and come back. Also you have to have a ticket to Sea world and the taxi in order to board the water taxi.

The room was nice and clean. We went for a suite, not in the tower. We had a great view of the Marina, it was quiet, and each room had a door with the bathroom in the middle. Meaning, you can go to the bathroom with out disturbing the kids in the other room. It had a small fridge and a television in each room. The pool was bit on the cool side, despite being heated, but the kids did not mind. there is a small waterslide for the little guys, and two big ones for those over 42". Poolside service made this a great vacation. Gotta love a place that will serve you a pina coloda while your child is entertaining himself on the water slide. One downside, didn't really seem to be enough life guards, so don't get too sloshed.

The breakfast buffet was included in the price of our room, and included a wide variety of hot foods, cold cereals, good fruit (not just honeydew). It would normally cost $20 per adult, which I would have considered a rip off. If the buffet is not included in your room the Einstein coffee/bagel shop was the place to be.

Please note: This is not a couples place. The pool looks like a daycare.

Room Tip: Suites with separate rooms with doors and tow beds are only in the three story building. Tower rooms...

My son and I stayed at the Hyatt Mission Bay for two nights in the early part of August, 2011. Our room on the 14th floor was clean and had a good view of the bay area. We took the water taxi to Sea World, a nice feature not found at other hotels. We enjoyed pool area, but getting a lounge chair by the pool wasn't easy during the afternoon, and the hot tub was a little crowded at times.
We had breakfast at the hotel restaurant - The Red Marlin - and enjoyed the best granola ever. We commented on the granola to the table server and she told us about the chef who was acquired recently by the restaurant. Yes, I'm raving about the granola, it was that good!

Room Tip: Tower rooms have a nice bay view on the west side. If your hotel room faces Sea World, you can see...

I was on a business trip with my husband. I could walk to a lot of places from this hotel. We were also there during the blackout. I felt like they did a great job of keeping everyone informed of what was going on. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Very nice hotel with resort like pool. Our room faced the marina and at night we got a front row view of fireworks at Sea World!

This hotel did not have the room type that I booked for the 1st night of arrival. They did compensate us for the inconvenience and helped us move into the new room.
Once we got settled in...it was WONDERFUL. The property was clean and the pool area was close to perfect. The water should be heated just a tad more. It should at least be warm enough to enjoy! My 3yr old would not even go in b/c she said it was too cold. I did not know that a pool with water slides could be too cold for a 3 yr old! However, the pool was still lots of fun to just hang out at.

The most impressive thing of all was the way that this entire hotel staff dealt with the power outage. California lost power for approx. 12 hours on the 8th. This entire staff turned it into a rather enjoyable experience. They had glow sticks for every room and even provided food for the hungry travelers that were checking in. Very impressive. Each person was friendly and professional. I will stay here every year!

Room Tip: Stay in the tower!
