I recently stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. The view from the balcony was lovely and the grounds were set out really well with nice walkways, trees and plants and an outside pool.

I must say that the hotel decor is looking very tired and needs a makeover. Saying that, it is in a lovely location with boardwalks and boats to look at and was not far from the sea. We ate in the restaurant belonging to the hotel overlooking the water which was lovely with a nice choice of food and with a great view.

The hotel staff were very polite and helpful so we could not fault them. Our room was clean.

The hotel is near Seaworld and the beach is approx. a pleasant 15 minute walk away. You would need a car if you wanted to go shopping or to a restaurant as there are none nearby except at the hotel itself.

It is such a shame that the decor is tired and dated as it really lets the hotel down but the location cannot be faulted.

Room Tip: Ask for a high rise room so you can enjoy the lovely views.

We stayed one night in the bungalow like rooms on the ground floor. The carpet was stained and dirty. The room had a disgusting odor. The air conditioner didn't really work too well except for the noise it made that kept u awake. The cushions to the patio furniture were missing. The couch was also stained and gross looking. How can they call this a 4 star hotel?! I wouldn't even give it one star. The rooms are way overpriced and then they sneak in a resort fee that is supposed to give u WiFi which is a joke because nothing works in this location. I had no reception on my phone for data, text or calls, but as soon as I got off the property, my reception bars returned to working status. The cable TV is regular analog TV, looks fuzzy not fun to watch at all. Save yourself the trouble, stay elsewhere! Anywhere but here! Oh I almost forgot the $29 Self parking fee. Rip off and highway robbery!

Room Tip: Dont stay here!

Hyatt+Resort+San Diego= High expectations. Think Myrtle Beach at triple the price. The pool and landscaping are great, but it's downhill after that. The rooms reflect this is an older property. In the first room, the TV could not receive NBC, ABC or CBS. In fairness, engineering was there and fixed it in minutes (loose connections). However, the room was behind the elevator shaft (Tower building, room numbers ending in -11). At 4am, there was a burst of activity that kept up and interfered with sleep. I requested, and received, a new room. In fairness, this was a larger, nicer room with two TV's, neither of which could receive NBC, ABC, or CBS. the rooms themselves are "respectably shabby" which works for Pawley's Island (SC), but not here.

For me, the goal of a room is a restful night's sleep. Apart from the elevator noise in some rooms, the beds are a big issue. The mattress pad on mine was a torn blanket. Over that was a flat sheet, not long enough to reach over the end of the bed, so it tangled in my feet. then there is a comforter sandwiched between two other sheets. This is a problem because the AC doesn't get cold enough to prevent the comforter from being too hot. Deconstructing the bed to sleep under a single sheet is a chore.

The overall property fits quite a bit onto a compact area, so there is a sense of density unbecoming a resort. The lush landscaping hides much of this quite well, but in moving around, I always had a sense either of being in the way, or being held up. There is a large marina, but no beach (other area properties seem to have one).

The marina offers rentals for a variety of water sports and fishing, and there is a nice fitness center with cardio and weights. The hotel restaurant has great views, an attentive wait staff, and good, if uninspired, food. The overall Mission Bay-Mission Beach area is young adult, family oriented. For older adults who are experienced travelers, this is not the ideal destination. Ocean destinations are tough on hotels, but Florida and Hawaii offer many examples of properties that make it work.

The staff is friendly and helpful, but clearly has not had the customer service training typical of true resorts. Nice people, but in a pleasant teenager sort of way. In contrast, I spent some time at the US Grant Hotel in downtown which provided a stark contrast with a superbly trained staff.

All this could be overlooked were it not for the cost. Room rates+parking+resort fee was over $300 per night. For that, you can do better.

Room Tip: There is a tower and two low rise buildings. The tower is iffy, maybe the low rise buildings are bet...

Stayed at the Hyatt for a week on business. Although it's a bit older than some other hotels, this ended up being a spot I've placed on my list of places to vacation with the family. The staff was extremely pleasant and the views were great! I was able to exercise on the elliptical facing the water then walk next door to Einstein's for the best cup of chai I've had in a while. The Red Marlin restaurant made the best cocktails and served a scallop dish that I loved...again, overlooking the water.

We recently stayed at this hotel and it was a significant let down. We had a queen suite which did have a great view of the water, etc, but the air conditioner leaked all over the closet and our clothes and had obviously been doing this for sometime due to the smell in the room. The carpet was disgusting and your feet or socks would turn completely black from the carpet. I did call the front desk about the air and maintenance showed up in about 10 mins. Took a quick look and said the lines were clogged and it needed to be blown out. We left for the day and I'm assuming they never returned since the leak continued. When I mentioned to the front desk about the smell, carpet etc, the response I rec'd was "you do realize this is an older property" I was shocked this was their response. How about cleaning the floors and keeping up the property that you so overly charge for!! With several other options in this area, we certainly would not return to this property.

I will say the young adults that work in the pool area were always friendly and helpful

We were pleasantly surprised overall as to what a nice experience we had at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay. The people were friendly and the service very efficient. We arrived early and our room was ready as we had requested. The room was quite nice. The two meals we had at the hotel were very good. It's location would be especially good for families-close to Sea World and with freeway access to other sights.

We spent 4 nights 4/16-20 and were very disappointed in the Hotel overall. We stayed in a Waterfront Queen Suite. The room was worn and weary and very dark.We were never able to connect to the Wifi which was included in our prepaid Resort Fee.. The local TV channels were snowy and unwatchable. When the a/c was on the fan was knocking and you couldn't sleep. The shower had no light, so once you closed the curtain you were showering in the dark. The lock on the front door was broken. The ice bucket lid was broken ( albeit a minor point). Outside the room the Ice Machine was out of service the entire visit. As we went down the stairway, the door handle fell off One of the Gates to the Pool was broken. Breakfast at the Red Marlin was interesting . We had to send back uncooked pancakes. Really. The check in was painfully slow with one Agent and one Trainee working.. The Hotel staff did not give me any info about the property I had ask. Really.. Good points , and are there were some. The Pool was fun, lifeguards attentive and friendly to all the kids. The Staff at the Food Bar were courteous and efficient.
