We usually prefer to rent houses rather than stay in hotels but we have really enjoyed our three days here. The room is large, quiet and very attractive. For people who would rather hang out at a quiet deserted beach, we have enjoyed the pool with its loud music and poolside bar service. Maybe its so hot our brains have melted or something, but this has been a fun change of scene for us. We had a package deal with free breakfast and I'm glad it was free because it looked way too expensive. The parking was expensive and the spaces were way too tight.

We've staying at Hyatt's before,,there lovely and usually sell themselves...but our last stay,,,while sleeping,,another family barged into our room,,in the middle of the night. (double booked??) no idea how this could happen...
A call the the hotel manager,,Brandon?? never even gave a call back. The rest of our stay,,we took our passports, jewlery,,,,where ever we went due to the fact we felt our security for personal property was lost.
Quit honestly I was more upset that our situation was never even addressed,,until 2 wks after our stay....not while we were there...ON VACATION.
Hyatt,,,maybe sould screen their employee's a bit better....maybe stopping ~> "double booking", "lack of good customer service"..and the time it took for me to share my story.

Just got back from a stay at this hotel with our three boys 4, 3, 1. They all loved it which means we loved it. The reviews were all true to a point but we will definitely be going back. When we arrived my wife said this is not a four star place. We've stayed at a few Ritz Carleton's, Hilton's, and a few four and five star places in Cancun so that is our reference point. By the end of the trip she said the place won her over so if you are willing to accept a few faults and you have kids, go. If you are a couple, I don't recommend it.

Arrival: The lobby area is kind of blah with a newer feel. The reps behind the desk were nice as long as you were. I noticed a couple next to us having difficulty, being Irate and getting attitude back... normally I would expect more patience from the staff. But for me, I asked FOR A ROOM FACING SEA WORLD IN THE TOWER. This is a must. Reading the other reviews it seems like people hated the low rise buildings (Bay I & II). From our Balcony, (room 1603) you could easily see the fireworks at Sea World each night. I got the room and was pleased.

Room was clean and well laid out. We fit two cribs in nicely into the room and never felt squeezed in. The halls were clean, the elevators although a little slow always worked well and we never heard them from our room.

We never had the room cleaned, we were there for three days and just asked for new towels and shampoo which they gladly gave to us.

Parking is a Rip and the spaces in the east lot are tiny. Go to the west lot (other side of the hotel) and the spaces are much larger.

We normally ate at a restaurant on Sports Arena Blvd... There were many there... In & Out; Papa Johns, Chile's, Olive Garden, and all the fast food joints.

On the other side of the bay just across the bridge is a great park with a bay beach. Good sand for sandcastles with minimal waves. If you like the waves, a few hundred feet down the same road (w. mission bay rd) and you hit the Pacific Ocean.

Kids stuff... Our four year old loved all the water slides (you have to be at least 42"). Our three year old loved the kiddie slide and out non walking toddler loved the slanted beach like pool where he could crawl down. For some reason the kiddie slide pool was colder than all the other pools, couldn't figure this one out. Each night you can roast marshmallows and make smores by the fire. They also had movies or other activities for kids through the day. Like I said, very kid friendly.

The Water taxi is awesome. The tickets at the concierge are $3.00 per person but you can go and come back from SeaWorld as often as you like. Next time we go our plan is to go in the morning, come back for lunch and pool time, then go back in the evening for the night shows and fireworks.

The breakfast if you have it included is ok. Definitely not one of those Vegas ones but enough to where you will have a decent breakfast if you can get it included.

All in all, if our kids had a bad time, I would be negative about the amount of money we paid for the hotel but the smiles on their faces makes the money we paid seem less important.

This place is fabulously landscaped and has wonderful views. Your kids will love it! I don't have kids, and I enjoyed the fact that the kids that I saw were having a great time. We had a room on a top floor and the views towards La Jolla were beautiful. There is a constant stream of watercraft coming in and going out of the Mission Bay. We saw seals playing in the water. (my friend saw a dolphin, but I didn't) I was still on East coast time and woke up early for the 3 days we were there and loved walking down the causeway. There is a small but well appointed fitness center that has a great view of the marina. There is an Einstein's Bagel shop (and provision store) above the marina that is a great place to sit and read. There is a ramp there down to the docks where you can rent equipment or just see the seals and folks getting ready to go fishing for the day. The hotel is busy, with weddings in the garden area each day we were there.

Rooms in the Tower building are spacious and beautiful. There was plenty of room for our king size bed, our 7 year old's high end rollaway (complimentary), a sofa, and chairs. The bathroom is very nice but only had a shower (no tub). We had a breakfast package and the buffet was good but modest (no omelette station or waffles made to order). We overlooked the pool which is open until 11 pm and could be noisy. The otherside of the building views the Seaworld fireworks which you could also see from the parking lot. This hotel is made for children of all ages. There are 2 substantial water slides for kids 42" and taller and a small one for the shorter set. My daughter must have gone the waterslide over 50 times in our 3 day stay and loved it every time. There are barely 100 chairs by the pool and many are wooden without cushions, certainly not enough when the hotel was full. The hotel is on the bay and it was very windy while we were there resulting in a hot tub full of children and toddlers (some eating their $5 snowcones that they sell at the pool...snowcones in a hot tub..really parents). The hotel also had a water taxi to Seaworld ($3 roundtrip for adults and children 3 and up) which ran once an hour and left you at a private entrance and you walked right in. The hotel was in a better location than we thought from looking at the map and was 3 minutes to Mission Beach, 10 minutes to Old Town (for Mexican), 15 minutes to the zoo and downtown (and the airport) and 25 minutes to Coronado (beautiful beach town) and La Jolla (had dinner outside at George's over looking the sunset on the beach...great food, reasonably priced upstairs and they will make kid friendly food although they do not have a kid menu). It is true that the parking spaces are narrow, you can hear planes taking off and landing, the music outside the pool could be loud at night and the fact that this upgraded hotel did not go wireless resulting in a $10/day internet charge was disappointing.

Have recently returned from the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay hotel, San Diego. No major howlers, but equally nothing to write home about. Location fine (15 minute walk or 5 minute car journey to the 'nearby' beach). Only one (expensive) restaurant in the hotel, although a series of snack-bars nearby ("Einstein's" being the best). Pool small, very crowded and very noisy - far from a relaxing experience. Rooms a good size. Parking $20 per night, which was unjustified, given the out-of-town location. Concierge staff helpful and knowledgeable. Lots of water-based activities and sports within walking distance.

My Wife and I were very very impressed with the Hyatt. This hotel has evolved over the years, now fully remodeled,it is top drawer, no remnants of the 70' or 80 old "Islandia" days. This property features two huge water slides for children, 1 small for the very young..even a small campfire at night near the pool for roasting marsh mellows. I am a Certified Meeting Professional by trade....so, if you want higer end and the budget, and the kids (or no kids), it would be hard to to beat this venue for over all service, food & beverage, accommodations - all fresh, clean and operational. Keep an eye on the electronic card keys though..I had to get help 4 times maybe just my luck.
