We are so pleased to hear you enjoyed Top of the Hyatt and the views that came along with it. Our goal is to ensure that all of our guests have a great time while exploring San Diego- whether is it for business or for pleasure- and have a comfortable room to relax when they need it. Thank you for sharing your experience and we hope to welcome you back soon.
This was our third stay at the Manchester Grand Hyatt and hopefully won't be our last! The place is only about 11 years old and is still in great shape. There are 2 towers but I have always stayed at the Harbor Tower. I am a member of the HyattClub so it gained us access to the "club" on floor 33. Which is awesome open 24 hours offers snacks, drinks and coffee and free breakfast!!
The Harbor Village is right out the back door which offers great views and lots of shops and restaurants.
Our room was 2940 and had a great view facing the USS Midway and the Harbor. Nice comfortable bed and a good sized restroom. Elevators where fast and efficient. Staff are top notch and very helpful. We walked over to the Gaslamp district but really did not like that area.
Thank you for your wonderful review. It means so much to us that we can continue to wow you each time you visit our hotel. Our Harbor Tower is actually around the 22 year mark and our Seaport Tower is just turning 12 this year. We have been keeping up with maintaining and renovating spaces to give a fresh look so we glad you take notice in that. Grand Club Access is a fabulous way to go to exclusive access to snacks and drinks each day of your stay. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us and others. We look forward to welcoming you back for a fourth time! Until then!
We spent 1 night in town to visit seaworld and the San Diego zoo, let me juts say that we loooved the Manchester grand hyatt .Wonderful location in the center , with a beautiful view on the seaport village and the battled ship USS midway . We had a leisure walk around the harbours in the morning, so beautiful .
The pool is super nice, large choice of restaurants . The breakfast buffet at Lael's was amazing.
The rooms very lovely, we had a king and a queen for our kids, communicating , with view on the bay .
The hotel is massive and you might get lost easily at first!
Everyone was super nice, from the bellman, to the receptionist.
We forgot a suitcase at the hotel, and they were fast to accomodate a delivery to our home in orange county . We will be back and really enjoyed !
Thank you so much for your kind words. The location of our hotel is one of the key features we pride in because it gives our guests the ability to experience the best of beautiful San Diego. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the pool and breakfast buffet with your family. Having two massive towers can easily turn you around which is why we have several reader boards to help you and of course our friendly staff who would gladly show you the way. With kids and a plane to catch, the luggage might have been the least of your worries at the time but we are happy to help and have your belongings sent to you. Thank you again and we hope to host you and your family again soon.
Good lord!!!!! From the minute we pulled up the service was amazing. It was our family's first trip to San Diego and the hotel was amazing. We received a free room upgrade and 150$ credit. The staff was also great as well, always very nice and helpful.
It is rewarding to hear that you enjoyed our services during your stay. We hope that we made you and your family’s first trip to San Diego special and a memorable one. Hopefully we can be your host again soon. Thank you so much for your kind review. Until then!
I arrived a day ahead of a 2700 person-convention I was attending, and enjoyed the room, the views, the walk to Seaside Village and Restaurants. Everything was well done and yes, the management, from the minute you arrived, served you with a smile. I really liked that part!
Beautiful finishes through out the hotel, great bar on the 40 floor with nice views!
Location is great to take in the Navy ships as they go in and out, easy walk to trendy restaurants.Nice grounds to take a walk by the water. A perfect 10.
Thank you for your thoughtful review. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the many features our hotel has to offer- from the view to the accessibility of shops and restaurants – we want you to have the opportunity to experience it all. Our management and staff will be pleased to hear that you appreciated the services they provided as it is our main priority as a host. Thank you again and we hope to welcome you back soon.
We had eight nights in the Hyatt this August. My observations are as follows:
The hotel is monumental on every scale. Its two towers- harbour and seaport- are not only massive they are actually a major part of the San Diego skyline-if you are downtown and trying to get back to the Hyatt, just look up-the towers will be looming over you. The lobby is incredible-most hotels could fit into it. We stayed in the Grand Hyatt in Dubai and that was massive but this certainly beats it. At each end of the lobby sits the towers. The Harbour tower is the larger one and contains the cocktail bar on the 40th floor (there are two sets of lifts 0-28 and then 29-40). On arrival the bell station can take your bags up to your room, but this isn't compulsory. We had no change for a tip so took our bags inside ourselves.
At the bottom of each tower sits a bar. For the Harbour tower it is the lobby bar and under Seaport it is Redfield's sports bar. Both are similar, though the lobby bar is darker and was too dark for us. Burgers and hot dogs were fine in both and service is friendly and efficient. Ok, for a quick drink. Out of Seaport tower are some of the restaurants attached to the hotel-Sallys on the water-an upscale seafood place and Ann Marie's coffee shop, which serves Starbucks coffee- both have tables outside (Sallys was great by the way). If you have breakfast included it will be in Laels-we had the grand buffet on the last day and it was fantastic-they cook omelettes and waffles to order, as well every other kind of breakfast food, fruit, pastries, cereals etc.
There are two. On the 4th floor is the main pool. This is quiet in the mornings, but we came back about 4pm one day and frankly it was packed, with some kids jumping in. It was too busy to enjoy a swim. If you use this pool I recommend doing so earlier in the day. Sadly for us, we didn't discover the adults only pool on the third floor until the last day (18 not 21+). It was much better and slightly warmer-if you don't have kids in tow use this pool. On the 4th floor by the pool is a poolbar. We ordered some daiquiris and I while I waited five mins I watched the barman mix about ten cocktails-he was rushed off his feet! Sadly, the cocktails were as a result very poor-at $28 it was a waste. Stick with beer or wine. On the 4th floor they also have fire pits which are lit each evening so people can roast something called s'mores (which to me sound utterly revolting). However, you can just buy marshmallows.
It's worth just once going to the 40th floor and trying the "Top of the Hyatt" bar at least once. Note-kids i.e anyone under 21 are not allowed in the bar after 8pm. The views are utterly amazing, though you can get the elevators to the 40th and look out of the windows in the lobby there for nothing. When we were there, the USS Midway had fireworks, though not sure how often that happens. Cocktails are pricey but good.
On arrival I left my camera in the taxi and the concierge service were only too pleased to call the company and arrange for the driver to call me. They also helped with general issues around tours etc. Reception were also efficient and friendly. I honestly had no complaints about the service and as it is a Hyatt you would expect it to be good. I suggest you speak to the concierges if you have any general issue. We had an issue with the toilet and someone was sent within five minutes.
We had a room in the harbour tower. It afforded us a fantastic view of the bay and the two super carriers, Carl Vinson and Ronald Reagan. There are very often ships in the Pacific Fleet docks which are impressive to see. On our last day, CV left for patrol with about a thousand men all in white standing on her deck!
Back to the rooms. I wouldn't say that the rooms were five star and nothing like the Hyatt in Dubai. There are about 1,600 rooms in total so I suspect they had to economise somewhere. The main bedroom was absolutely fine though-clean and the furniture, beds etc all new and not damaged in any way.
The bathroom was definitely not five star. It was perfectly ok, but the shower is over the bath and not a walk in-for five star, I would expect a walk in shower. That said, the shower was fine. We were in a disabled room which meant the bathroom had a sliding door. This could result in some embarrassment unless you make sure others know you are going to the bathroom! It was fine for us though. I'm not sure how many such rooms there are at the Hyatt. One point I did not enjoy-the bathroom light was very, very bright. We tended to leave the bathroom light on in case (or in my case because of the certainty of) needing the loo in the night. As soon as I walked from semi-sleep into the bathroom it almost eviscerated my eyeballs! It was way too bright and there should really be a lower light also-by mirrors perhaps. I'm not sure if this is linked to it being a disabled room (which we didn't request by the way). It's a small point but worth making in case the Hyatt is listening. I would add that the construction of the hotel seems very good as we only heard our neighbours once and that was briefly.
There is a coffee making machine in the room which uses sachets which you insert. It's a nice touch when you wake up. However, after the first day we didn't get anymore so had to ask-however, we were then given enough for the rest of our stay. The room contains a small empty fridge. This is a brilliant idea rather than stupid mini bars. the fridge was big enough to put beer, milk and soda in (where to get them is mentioned below!).
Go out the Seaport Tower and you come to seaport village. At first this might seem very touristy but there are some interesting shops-try the one that sells only bottles of chilli sauce! There are some nice breakfast places besides Ann Marie's, which is a bit limited. We eat at the Edgewater Grill twice which has fantastic waffles. It has outside tables also. It's brilliant being able to eat breakfast on the embarcadero, look across at Coronado and the boats going too and fro.
If you walk about five mins up West Market Street you come to Ralphs supermarket which has everything you need to stock your fridge (there are ice making machines on each floor of the hotel). Walk further along to around fifth ave and you are in the Gaslamp district, which is no more than eight mins from the hotel. This is an absolute must and has more restaurants than you could possibly need. The Gaslamp sign for the obligatory photo is at the bottom of fifth by the Hard Rock café. Transport is easy from the hotel as you have a trolley station opposite the hotel and the Santa Fe depot with another trolley is a five min walk. You can get to anywhere in SD easily from these. An absolute must is USS Midway which is only a lovely ten minute walk through Seaport Village.
Enough said. We recommend the Manchester Grand Hyatt and would gladly stay there again.
Thank you so much for candid review. We are happy to hear you enjoyed staying with us this past August. We appreciate your feedback about our poolbar, rooms and bathrooms and will be sharing this with our staff to see what we can do to improve on each one of these in the future. Thank you for choosing to stay with us and we look forward to welcoming you back to sunny San Diego soon.
