Even though we booked a non-smoking room a month in advance we were given a smoking room our first night. The room the first night was tiny, dingy, and just gross. The next 6 nights we were upgraded to a large non-smoking room. It was nice but half the outlets didn't work and the bathtub kept clogging.

We were pleased with our upgraded room but will never return. The main reason is the noise level. Our room was located next to their reception hall and they would book wedding receptions, etc without any regard for the paying guests not in the "party".
So there was super loud music and partying going on until 1:00 am literally right outside our door even on weeknights!! Ridiculous!!!

We had originally booked this hotel for 6 nights at $159/night. What a rip off, I wouldn't have paid more than $75/night at peak conference season. Thank goodness that they let us check out after the first night. I was traveling with a group of 6 adults for a conference. One of our rooms smelled of smoke (non-smoking posted on door), so we asked to switch.
All 3 rooms located in building 8 was a dump! How dare they call themselves a resort. Rooms had their own special odor, bathrooms were tiny, rooms seemed to close in on you, low ceilings and just plain dreary. Noise level was pretty high too.
I don't understand how others could review this hotel as a 3 or higher...wonder what they consider poor conditions? The few positive things about this hotel was their policy on letting us check-out early, ample parking, and good location. If you can find a hotel anywhere else in hotel circle, I suggest you go there, you will be a lot happier. After checking out of the Mission Valley Resort, we checked into the Ramada...about the same price and way nicer. Front desk at Ramada was also very friendly.

My family and I have taken at least 2 San Diego Vacations every Summer for the past 12 years. We have stayed at many places including
the Catamaran, the Bahia and Paradise Point. We were a little reluctant to stay at the Mission Valley Resort but our fears were put to rest shortly after our arrival.

The Staff was very polite and when we requested a room change to allow us closer access to the pool area, it was done. The rooms however small, were clean and where we were located, was quiet. The Cafe on site had reasonable pricing and good quality, as well as a very friendly staff.

We were very pleasantly surprised and plan on returning to stay at the Mission Valley Resort again in the future.

I stayed here for a business trip June 17 - June 22, and I'm glad I chose Mission Valley Resort!

Stayed in Room 201, which was convenient to all that the resort offers (restaurants, pool, etc). The room was plenty large, and that includes the bathroom. This room had 2 queen beds, nightstand between them, an armchair and ottoman, a combination entertainment center and dresser, and a work desk with work chair. Nothing too fancy, but all seemed to be in decent shape and clean. Closet was roomy, with probably 8+ hangers to use. There was also a little safe on the closet floor. I saw two other rooms, Room 104 and Room 455, and they looked just about exactly the same, except Room 455 had a balcony since it was a 2nd floor room. Nice!

The bathroom, even though it served its purpose for me and didn't cause any major problems, should be updated soon. Many signs of wear here. There is one semi-updated aspect, which is the curved shower rod, which improves my shower experience greatly as I absolutely HATE making contact with the shower curtain in a hotel room. All in all, a functional bathroom at best.

The AC unit actually did a good job for an in-wall unit, allbeit a noisy one.

The restaurant on site is 24-hour, and serves up decent food, especially the Mexican dishes. Prices are reasonable, with breakfast meals going for $6 - $12, lunch about the same, and dinner from $6 - $16. When the adjacent bar is in operation, alchoholic drinks are available with your meals. I was delighted to see that the bar had Sierra Nevada's Pale Ale on tap. Tasty!

I didn't not use the pool and hot tub area, but it looked alright. It had a good ambiance about it, with greenery of different types and sizes around most of it. Way better than those pool areas surrounded by concrete.

The gym located behind the resort seemed to do a brisk business. A coworker went almost each morning and said the place was quite busy. He also said it was equipped quite well.

Overall the grounds were pretty well kept up, landscaping seemed current, only short-term instances of litter sitting around. For a resort that sits on a busy street, has a gas station adjacent, and operates a convenience/liquor store, the overall quality of the stay was good.

The location is very convenient to many parts of San Diego. Located right off of East-West running Highway 8, it's a couple minutes drive to a good-sized shopping mall (Fashion Valley), around an average of 5 minutes to Old Town and Balboa Park, and only 10 or 15 minutes to downtown SD, Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, Sea World and La Jolla. I believe San Diego has one of the better highway systems on the West Coast.

Bottom Line: I would definitely consider Mission Valley Resort the next time visiting San Diego.

I stayed at the mission valley resort with two friends in February of 2007, and we really enjoyed it!

We were three 20 year old girls traveling alone however, there were no worries of being unsafe at this hotel. After reading reviews about this hotel, we actually intentionally got there three hours early, per thier cancellation policy, to check it out... just in case. We had the intention of decided whether it would be clean and safe enough, and finding another hotel if it did not meet our idea of "good."

When we pulled off the freeway we spotted it, pulled in the parking lot and were suprised. The reviews we had read said it was "a dump..." NOT TRUE!!! Although it is an older hotel, it is very nice!

Although we arrived too early to check in the people at the front desk allowed us to check in early @ no extra charge!

The rooms were sufficient, especailly when you consider the price... the only dislike we had was the bathroom. Again let me remind you... THREE GIRLS... so obviously there was not enough counter space and the door didnt lock... but other than that I'm sure it would be fine for a couple or some less "high maitenance" group!

Overall= VERY IMPRESSED!

We were traveling to San Diego to attend a function at the resort, and because we had a recuperating person in our party, we felt we needed to locate on site, and as close to the function as possible. We have stayed in Hyatts, Mariotts and Sheratons in San Diego in the past. When I read some of the online reviews, I expected a negative or neutral experience. Not so! Every effort was made to accommodate our special needs. The room was well-decorated and spotless. Beds were exceptionally comfortable(and I mean, without exception at any of the other sites where we have stayed recently ). While the beds were doubles and not queens, they were so comfortable that I would chose them any time. Also, the grounds were lovely, the staff was friendly, and the effort made to indentify the location of our event, the ambience of the setting for it, and the courtesy of the servers, bartenders and staff was way above average. All four adults in our party agree that this will be the base for our SanDiego visits.

We booked on-line; looking at the pictures and comments which don't always help. We were surprised to find a nice hotel in Hotel Circle S. for our 3 day stay. The rooms were clean, quiet but small. Any more than 2 of us, we would have been in trouble. The hotel is in a good location; easy to get to other locations and attractions.
