We stayed at Old Town Inn based on it's popularity on Trip Advisor as well as recommendations on the forum. We were glad we did.
It is not a fancy hotel, let me get that out the way first off. If you want a 5 star hotel, spend $200 or $300 and stay somewhere else.
If you want a centrally located clean place to sleep with comfortable beds and a pool to unwind for a reasonable price, Old Town Inn is a perfect option.
The incredible staff treat you like a VIP here. From the moment we first checked in they were always polite, helpful and very knowledgeable. Old Town with it's restaurants, museums and shops as well as plentiful public transit options is a few minutes walk away. There is a Target, grocery stores and fast food within 5 minutes by car. The front desk provided is with instructions to get to various places by both car and public transit and helped us find train schedules and print them on the lobby computer. There is always fresh coffee and ice water available and the pool is clean with plenty of chairs and surrounded by plants and flowers.
We stayed for 3 days in the "bungalow rooms" (about $80/night) and they were on the smaller side but we had everything we needed. The Queen size bed was comfortable with plenty of pillows, there was a small table and chairs as well as a fridge and microwave (there are cheaper rooms with no appliances), stand up shower and walk in closet. We moved to a larger room in the Deluxe wing for two days as well (our room was not available for our whole stay) and these rooms were fancier with a sofabed, kitchenette area and overall larger. The A/C units were also newer. These rooms did cost more ($105-140 depending on night of the week)
but were still a great value.
As far as the location of the Inn, some have mentioned the "industrial area" and they are correct but it doesn't really matter. The location is close to so many places that people want to visit when in San Diego. We sat outside by the pool both in the day and evening and always found it peaceful and relaxing. There is the occasional siren but you can expect that in any urban area. We did not notice any noise from the highway or surrounding buildings.
We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to others!
