We stayed at Old Town Inn based on it's popularity on Trip Advisor as well as recommendations on the forum. We were glad we did.

It is not a fancy hotel, let me get that out the way first off. If you want a 5 star hotel, spend $200 or $300 and stay somewhere else.

If you want a centrally located clean place to sleep with comfortable beds and a pool to unwind for a reasonable price, Old Town Inn is a perfect option.

The incredible staff treat you like a VIP here. From the moment we first checked in they were always polite, helpful and very knowledgeable. Old Town with it's restaurants, museums and shops as well as plentiful public transit options is a few minutes walk away. There is a Target, grocery stores and fast food within 5 minutes by car. The front desk provided is with instructions to get to various places by both car and public transit and helped us find train schedules and print them on the lobby computer. There is always fresh coffee and ice water available and the pool is clean with plenty of chairs and surrounded by plants and flowers.

We stayed for 3 days in the "bungalow rooms" (about $80/night) and they were on the smaller side but we had everything we needed. The Queen size bed was comfortable with plenty of pillows, there was a small table and chairs as well as a fridge and microwave (there are cheaper rooms with no appliances), stand up shower and walk in closet. We moved to a larger room in the Deluxe wing for two days as well (our room was not available for our whole stay) and these rooms were fancier with a sofabed, kitchenette area and overall larger. The A/C units were also newer. These rooms did cost more ($105-140 depending on night of the week)
but were still a great value.

As far as the location of the Inn, some have mentioned the "industrial area" and they are correct but it doesn't really matter. The location is close to so many places that people want to visit when in San Diego. We sat outside by the pool both in the day and evening and always found it peaceful and relaxing. There is the occasional siren but you can expect that in any urban area. We did not notice any noise from the highway or surrounding buildings.

We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to others!

From the moment I phoned the Old Town Inn, and spoke with Anna, one of the inn's friendly desk clerks, I was bowled over with their desire to answer my myriad of questions and fulfill our family's every need. We would be spending five nights in San Diego and wanted to have a home base that was affordable, offered a pool and compimentary breakfast, was convenient to sights, was positioned in a quiet safe neighborhood, and which captured the charm of Old Town. The Old Town Inn satisfied all these requirements.

Anna immediately booked us on the top floor, in Room 313, far removed from the traffic of Pacific Highway, giving us the peaceful luxury of not having another family above us. Our room was equidistant between the stairwell and the elevator and looked out over our parked car and the lush tropical foliage surrounding the hotel's lobby, pool, and breakfast room. The grounds were quite lovely (including welcoming signs in Spanish, vibrant well-tended plantings, and Old Town fiesta banners along with flags from California, Mexico, and the USA) and set the tone for a wonderful holiday in San Diego.

Our actual room was quite comfortable, though there was an unfamilar scent about it which I would have preferred to have been more neutral. We were pleased to find a sink in the bathroom and an additional sink in the adjacent powder room. Parking places were rather tight, but folks were patient and respectful. Ever the courteous hosts, when I told Anna that our son would be joining us later in the evening, she replied that if there were no parking spots available, he was to come to the reception area where the the desk clerk would let him have her place.

Breakfast was basic but well-balanced. Cold cereals, instant oatmeal, danish, bagels, and toast were featured along with fresh fruit, orange juice, milk, hard boiled eggs, and hot waffles. Coffee and tea was served throughout the day and evening.

From Old Town Inn, we were pleased to be within walking distance to the downtown trolley and to the Old Town sights and restaurants. We did notice that there were a number of vagrants at the trolley station and occasionally some would wander over to the inn's neighborhood but, all in all, we felt safe and pleased with our stay at the the Old Town Inn. Our son would have enjoyed relaxing in a jacuzzi after a long day of sightseeing--perhaps, that can be on the inn's future improvement plans. The icing on the cake, so to speak, was when I needed assistance in finding our son's favorite bakery in Little Italy. The inn's desk clerk immediately went to work and found Extraordinary Desserts on India Street and handed me the printout with directions to purchase his birthday cake.

Room Tip: Since we were staying for five nights, we were advised to book a 3rd story room (room 313). It was q...

Old Town Inn is very good at what they do. They are not a 5 star hotel, they don't have a hotel store or gift shop, there's no gym, and I wish there were a hot tub, but for a reasonably priced place to stay, they are excellent. The grounds and rooms are very clean and well maintained. Bedding smelled freshly laundered, and I loved the large vanity area. Staff is very friendly - from the employees at the front desk, to maids, and the people working breakfast. The free deluxe continental breakfast was great. The Inn is centrally located. It's worth walking under the freeway overpass to reach Old Town rather that try to find parking over there. We also stayed at an inn located on Hotel Circle, but ended up driving back towards Old Town because of the large selection of eateries and shops there. Just keep in mind that since it's so affordable, families with small children choose to stay there. Our children are older teens and everything was great. We stayed 2 nights.

Just checked into this lovely motel, it is small and close to a lot of things to do. The staff was especially friendly and helpful when we checked in. We are only here for one night and for the price it was worth it, we would stay again.

This was a very special family gathering in San Diego and our stay at the Old Town Inn was a huge bonus - in so many ways. Old world charm and beauty inside and out. Our room was very clean and cozy, and the staff was without exception cheery and thoughtful and wonderfully accomodating. We had a couple of very hectic days so to end the evening relaxing by the pool, surrounded by the lush, tropical foliage was heaven! The best surprise was the pool-side gas grill, and they even provided the tools for grilling out hot links and rolls - it was a delightful meal!

Room Tip: My next visit I will definitely request a room by the pool - simply beautiful!

Front desktop very kind and helpful, room clean and comfortable but a little noisy because of the high traffic road nearby. Swimming pool, breakfast. You can borrow DVDs at the front desk.

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for choosing the Old Town Inn. We value your feedback, and truly appreciate that you took the time to write a review. I am very glad to hear that you had a good stay, and that you found the room to be clean and comfortable. I am sorry to hear that the traffic noise was a problem for you. Our location is a bit unusual, and the street traffic can occasionally cause annoyance. It is helpful to know that the front desk always has earplugs on hand just in case the noise is a bother to anyone. For the most part, guests are happy with the convenience of our location; being a block away from the Transit Station and many San Diego attractions is a major benefit to our unique spot. Also, the traffic is usually worst in the daytime during working hours, and since the area is industrial, it dies down considerably at night. I hope that the noise was not too much of a nuisance and that you were able to sleep comfortably.

Thank you for mentioning our DVD library and swimming pool, we’re very happy to hear that you enjoyed them. Our company culture is to provide the budget smart traveler with quality, affordability, and great customer service. It is great to know that we met your expectations, and we will strive to do so every time.

Again, thank you for choosing Old Town Inn, it was a pleasure having you as our guest.

We found this hotel through TripAdvisor and it was lovely. The staff were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They had directions already printed out for Sea World, the Zoo, a grocery store, the Harbor and many other places. They had restaurant recommendations. Breakfast was simple, but good. The pool is heated. We were very impressed and would go back again. The area immediately around the hotel is what I would call light industrial, but the hotel grounds are a lovely well-tended oasis.
