We had a great experience at the Doubletree in downtown San Diego. We stayed for 4 nights in January 2014. The hotel is very conveniently located with easy access to the highway and everything to see in San Diego. The Hotel is walking distance to all of the activity in Little Italy, and the Little Italy Farmer's Market was right next to the Hotel (Saturdays). Our room was very clean and well kept, comfortable. We were on the 22nd floor with a view of the airport and freeway a little noisy, but not bad with the door closed), enjoyed watching planes landing. There was a view of the bay from the balcony. Overall, a very pleasant experience for a great price; great value!

17 of us for dinner. No one else in restaurant. They did not have enough menus for 17 people. A piano player who was so loud & poor acoustics we asked him to stop. The restaurant ran out of Tomato soup when we were the only people in there. It took 40 minutes to fill the tub with medium hot water at 5:30 Pm. I was on 18th floor. Food was GREAT, so was service at desk and restaurant and bar. Meeting room was fine. Airport pick up was very good.

The location was very good. Mostly the front desk was very helpful but their idea of a short walk varied from eight blocks to fifteen not a big deal if you are 50 or younger but at 74 it can present problems Dolly checked us in and was very helpful with suggestions to accomplish the most during our stay. The wireless had to be restablished daily even though we were there for four days and prepaid. Rooms were comfortable.

Lobby bar very nice but loud with piano music. Restaurant high priced for basics. Clean rooms and friendly staff. Courtesy bus to/from airport a challenge. Pricing is a moving target without a firm number for any given day or any discounting method. All in all a place to stay when nothing else available.

Room Tip: Not sure even numbers or odd numbers would make a difference

This is a near-luxury hotel that lived up to our expectations. We were here for only one night, and our somewhat complicated arrival and departure went off without a hitch with the help of the hotel staff. We arrived a few hours before the usual check-in time, but we were given a room and allowed to use the parking garage for the 10 minutes it took us to unload luggage from our rental car before going to turn it in.

The hotel location is great...next to a park where we've noticed there are often public events and just a couple minutes walk from the Little Italy restaurants and shopping. The room was very nicely decorated, had lots of plugs for charging phones, computers, etc., and the beds were very comfortable.

We needed to check out an hour before the hotel shuttle service started in the morning, but the staff called a cab for us. (That cost about $10). Overall a great stay.
