“Great place”
Reviewed 1 May 2014

I had the pleasure of staying at the westgate San Diego on April 29th. The staff at the front desk was wonderful. The room was nice and roomy and comfortable. I did not care for the shared entrance as my neighbours seemed to go in and out constantly. One person that was a little irritating was the concierge. I just got off a cruise ship and was dressed a little warmly. She embarrassed me by saying " we need to get you out of those warm clothes". Why is it any of her business what I choose the wear? She made me feel like I was five. She did know her job but maybe some tact would be in order. The food was very good at the hotel. The service was great at night but terrible in the morning. I would stay here again.

I agree with the other comments. . . this is a fabulous hotel. The pool/spa on the 3rd floor roof was the highlight of my children's vacation. It is LITERALLY in the middle of San Diego and the staff were knowledgeable, very pleasant and efficient. The brunch was tasty, but it was not included in our stay, so ASK ($) before you EAT!!!!

We stayed at the Westgate from April 16 to April 21, 2014. It is the nicest hotel we have ever stayed in. The rooms are large and the beds (ours a king) extremely comfortable. The bathrooms are amazing too, with a big, spacious shower and no problems with hot water or water pressure, even on the 15th floor - impressive for an old building! The balcony and view looking out towards the water was a plus, too. The customer service was excellent - we ordered dinner one night through room service and enjoyed a beautiful set up. We asked for a scissor another day to cut tags off our clothes and it was brought to us within minutes. Turn down service every night with chocolates, too! The location is excellent if you want to sample a little bit of everything in San Diego - shops along the water, Gaslamp, and Petco Park all within walking distance, and cabs or public transportation to get you everywhere else. The only possible drawback I see is the air conditioning. It was fine for a trip in April, but unless they set their own thermostat to a lower temperature or something, it never really got super cold in the room and I may inquire further before booking a midsummer stay. I also could do without the double-door set up - there was one master door that took you through to two more doors, one each to a separate room. Fine if you're staying with friends in an adjacent room, slightly weird if there's a stranger next door. Overall, would stay again, highly recommend!

Room Tip: We stayed in 1590 - a corner room. Very nice view.

Hotel is directly across the street from NBC studios, the higher the floor the better the view. You can see the water from higher floors. Near Restaurants, Shopping, tours, etc. Yummy brunch. The hotel is beautiful, rugs, paintings, piano, Doorman and onsite parking (valet). Prices were reasonable. A book of dignitaries, movie stars who have stayed there are in each room.

Room Tip: The higher the floor, the better the view...

This was and still is the most romantic hotel we have stayed in. The old antique feel and friendly people make this my favorite place to stay! The showers were AMAXING! The concierge was so helpful and pleasant, we felt so welcomed. Within walking distance to pick up trolley or train to go about town, or stay local for the great locals.

This is an amazing property with an antique finish to the entire hotel. Really centrally located and amazing place to stay. I highly recommend this place . The charges are very appropriate for what it has to offer.

Room Tip: look for the sea facing rooms. Amazing view

My 17 year old daughter and I decided to take a trip to San Diego and just "wing it" for a week in warmth and sunshine. We booked our stay at the Westgate on a whim and could not have been more pleased with the outcome. The service was OUTSTANDING - and the chief concierge flawlessly directed us to everything we had on our mind. From the perfect breakfast spot in the Gaslamp district, to the perfect bike rental company (they delivered them right to the hotel for us!) to the perfect sushi bar....she was spot on every time! We were able to walk to EVERYTHING - even the Boardwalk - which made it easy to explore the city. As adventurous as I tend to be, I'm certain that I will default back to the Westgate the next time I visit San Diego. They just know how to do it right!
