“Clean but small”
Reviewed 5 November 2013

We just needed a safe place to sleep before catching an early flight. This property was very clean and nicely updated. My daughter and I stayed in a one bed which was very nice but also very, very small. Very convenient to the airport (5 minutes), was a very safe neighborhood and easy access to walking on the harbor to Seaport Village. Would highly recommend for convenience but not for staying long-term for a vacation spot.

Room Tip: One bed rooms are very, very small. No courtyard or place to sit outside.

Not a bad hotel for the price, but you're trading some things to save some money. There's not enough parking spaces in their lot for the number of rooms they have. Option 'B' is to park on the side street. There's no elevator to the 2nd floor... Once in the room, there's a decent bed w stone topped night stands, table w/2 chairs and a VERY large dresser (drawers didn't stay shut) which the TV sits on. Good luck walking between the foot of the bed and that dresser without hitting something. A decent sized closet with safe and the bathroom. The shower stall had a bit of mildew on the floor tiles...

The location is good though. It's close to the harbor and airport. You can hear every plane taking off & landing. We used the air conditioner to mask the noise during the night.

Valued Guests,

Thank you so very much for letting us know how your stay went with us here at the Marina Inn and Suites. I'm saddened to hear a couple of things you mentioned. Firstly, I am truly sorry the furniture was "bulky" and uncomfortable for you. We never want our Guests to be uncomfortable at any time. I wish we were informed of this, as we would either relocate you - or help move furniture to your liking. We're always willing to do absolutely any thing we can in our powers to make our Guests feel at ease and at home. Secondly, the shower issue will be looked into immediately. We're deeply sorry you had to witness that, as that is unacceptable for us - as well as yourself! We hope you return with us - as we strive to continue to learn and grow and become the best we can with help from our Guests like you!

Thank you!

The Marina Inn is situated near downtown/ gas lamp district, and the airport. It is a very convenient location for the night life and the airport, near old town and not far to get around to Point Loma, Coronado bridge, Balboa park, zoo, I5 freeway, etc... The rooms are clean and comfortable enough for the price. The customer service was very good as the management worked with us through some small issues. The downside of the property is a derivative of its upside. Being right central, it is on a busy intersection. So just don't stay at the Marina if you want to chill out near the pool and have cocktails in a remote, tropical setting. Otherwise, it is a functional and clean little property

This property has no pool, a poor breakfast in very cramped quarters, and bad in-room coffee, but the furniture is new, the parking is free, and the location is absolutely excellent - within easy walking distance of the pier, the USS Midway, and Little Italy. We had no TV remote in our room. They said they'd get one but we never had one in our 4 days there.

We had a decent stay here for 3 or 4 consecutive nights. Rooms are clean, ours had no microwave but came with a fridge. We requested a room with ocean view but only booked one day in advance, so we got a room next to an alley. Breakfast is included but is very limited: bread with jelly and a toaster, milk, coffee, orange juice and oatmeal.

And now for the 1 star part: We specifically requested to pay by cash to avoid extra charges from the credit card company. The employee agreed, but told us she needed the credit card in case of damage to the room. Then, upon check-out, the room had already been charged to the credit card. She reversed the credit card charge and had us pay by cash, which did nothing to prevent the charges caused by the credit card transaction. We contacted the hotel about these charges when we got back home, but got no response. We sent a second message using their own website, which was ignored as well.

Room Tip: Make sure to get a room with a view of the ocean instead of a dirty alley.

This strikes me as the kind of hotel property that was super dingy at one point, but then got a new owner that has been gradually working it to be a better place. The rooms were clean, but still was there something generally dingy about the whole place. Not like feel gross in the bed dingy, but like wonder how many cigarettes have been smoked in the room in years gone by dingy.

Still, it had all the amenities, fluffy towels and a clean bathroom, and really nice staff who are eager to make your stay great. The city is currently (as of 9/12/13) building a nice park across the street, so come this time next year, the location of this place will be unbeatable.

The parking is a problem, yes, as some reviewers have noted, but it is a problem that the motel is very proactive about solving. If you just have a little patience, you won't have to worry about your car at all.

Also, the price is way lower than similarly located hotels, so I recommend the Marina Inn without reservation, as long as you can handle the work in progress that this hotel seems to be and you aren't OCD about parking.

We appreciate your kind comments. Our inn continues to progress each and everyday to ensure we are meeting guest satisfaction. We have started with hiring guest service agents, rather than the so called "front desk clerk". After we were staffed, we replaced all of our bedding with fitted sheets and new pillows. In the past few weeks we just opened our brand new prototypical aqua suites (ask us about them). Our inn is dedicated to staying in trend, and meeting guest standards as society progresses. We want to thank you again for posting such an honest review.
