The location in North Park allows easy access by bus, cab, or car to all of SD. The atmosphere within the hotel makes you want to stay in and relax. Poolside rooms with French doors allow access to great classic music and bands as well as excellent poolside service. This is retro hospitality at it's finest. The one single thing that I would change is to add a micro-fridge to the rooms. That way you could bring back some of the many micro-brews available in SD to enjoy them on your private balcony or reheat some of the awesome pizza (el Diablo) from Luigi's in North Park, that you can get delivered to the hotel. Other than that our experience was perfect. Eric, Marcus, and Victor were all fantastic in the restaraunt and Aimee at the front desk was a wonderful front to which to arrive. We will DEFINITELY be staying here again when we come back to San Diego.

Thank you for the amazing review and feedback from your recent stay with us at the Lafayette. We are very close in proximity to North Park which is a culinary and micro-brew mecca for San Diego as you mentioned. We do have the option of having a mini-fridge brought to the room for a low daily fee as well as having a microwave available for guest use in our general store located next to the Front Desk (open 24hrs). The El Diablo is a personal favorite of our whole team actually and restaurant's within walking distance provide a wide variety of options including Russian cuisine at, East African, Lebanese and fantastic BBQ. I'll make sure we pass along your gracious comments to all the team members you mentioned and the rest of our team, we most certainly would like to welcome you back when you have a chance to vacation again. Thank you again for the feedback and we wish you back soon.

The Suze suite was very spacious. The staff was very friendly and helpful, great pool and the hotel looks great. The breakfast was soooo good. The hotel is close to everything, so an excellent location.

Room Tip: The Suze suite was really great, because it has two full washrooms, two separate rooms, top floor is probably better because its further from the gate leaving the property

We are pleased to hear that your stay with us was so enjoyable. The Suze Suites are very spacious with both rooms having their own restrooms and a microwave and refrigerator for convenience purposes. I agree the breakfast is amazing as well as the Brunch on Sundays from 9am-2pm, a great option out on the veranda by the pool during sunrise. We hope you enjoyed San Diego, thank you for choosing the Lafayette!

We really liked this hotel! Cute and clean rooms, free parking and internet, beautiful pool, great restaurant, and it has a lively fun environment for all ages. They even have movie nights by the pool for kids! We will be back!

Thank you for choosing the Lafayette, we're glad you enjoyed your stay. Our movie listings for the Dive-In Movie nights (Thursday/Friday/Saturday) are on our website, and they are free for all guests as well as locals who want to join us. If you like the title of the night, come enjoy dinner & a movie at Hope 46 or a couple of refreshments - and free popcorn! While we still have complimentary internet, there will be a small fee for parking going forward so please inquire during your reservation process on the policy changes. Thanks again for your great comments and hopefully you'll be able to visit San Diego in the near future.

We booked a 4 night stay at the Lafayette for a family trip to San Diego. The hotel was beautifully restored and our room was great, but the atmosphere around the pool was absolutely NOT kid-friendly. In defense of the hotel, we were there over Memorial Day weekend and the front desk said the pool was "a little wilder" than normal. However, with the combination of bouncers around the pool, empty drink cups and dirty towels thrown everywhere, and "who knows what" going on in every corner, it had a seedy nightclub feel instead of a classy swim club. We were looking for a place to relax and have a drink by the pool while the kids swam, but this wasn't it! We finally (along with one other family with children) left the pool because it was not appropriate for our kids. It was extremely disappointing because the hotel advertises Suze Suites with bunk beds for the kids so it appeared as if it were kid-friendly. We ended up moving to a more family-friendly hotel and the front desk staff was completely understanding and helpful in adjusting our original reservations and they did not charge us for the unstayed nights. This hotel is great for young singles looking for a party around the pool, but think twice if planning to book with children. Don't let the fact that they have family suites lead you to believe this is a family friendly resort (at least on the weekends).

Thank you for being so understanding on the fact that it was a Holiday weekend and we apologize that the pool atmosphere was not up to your expectations. Weekends generally see more volume at the pool as we are open to the public for use as well as our Swim Club patrons, and we would suggest that families utilize the pool at earlier hours for a more tranquil experience. I am glad that your transition to another hotel went smoothly and hope that we can accommodate you and your family another time. Please feel free to contact us in advance to inquire about any events or to check on predicted pool volume and we would be glad to inform you as we would like to make your families experience the best possible. Thank you again for your understanding and for choosing the Lafayette.

They have done a really nice job of restoring this hotel. The staff is very friendly. The only caveat would depend on what you're looking for. This isn't luxury modern, rather historic and updated. Very good if you're wanting a feel for Northpark area of San Diego and the Boulevard area.

Thank you for choosing the Lafayette, and for noticing all of the recent restoration efforts that have taken place. As are a very proud member of San Diego's Historical Society as well, and coupling those two facts we know gives our guests a very unique experience. North Park is only 5 minutes away and incorporates an amazing array of restaurants and night life with accolades from numerous major publications. The Boulevard is also a very historic route through the city, as it used to be Route 80 - one of the main transportation arteries in San Diego. Hopefully you will come visit us again!
