Me and my best friend decide that we wanted to have a weekend getaway to San Diego and decided relatively last minute to stay at the US Grant. I doubt I have ever been that impressed with a hotel outside of some of the Vegas properties I have stayed at. The front desk staff accommodated our early check in, the room was SPOTLESS, and we got a BEAUTIFUL room on the end on the 6th floor. The entire hotel was an elegant affair akin to what hotels used to be along the CA Coast. Close to EVERYTHING, gas lamp, the ocean, Horton Plaza, short drive to Balboa Park. Overall on of the best properties in San Diego if not all of Southern California. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Room Tip: Room 643 was incredible Duvet Covers can make you a little toasty at night

Love the enthusiasm in this review; it must be all those trips to Vegas! With that positive attitude I am sure you always come back a winner! With our ownership from Sycuan tribe maybe we should try to get some tables put in downstairs and bring back the speakeasy.... food for thought for our planned enhancements in 2016! First stay here this past weekend. Couldn't find street parking or self parking garage (I am not sure about the open ACE parking lot across the civic center). Lots of homeless people were on the street from the parking lot to the hotel, so we opted to spend the $39 valet parking. The valet was very prompt and friendly. Once he knew we were checking in, he asked the door man to assist us. The door man was very nice as well.

At check in, front desk representive was very nice and friendly. I did not like the size of the elevator. Super small. Anyhow, not crazy about the size of the superior room (other members of my family checked into a king superior and two double superior rooms). We received an upgrade to Legacy suite (being a SPG Platinum guest). While spacious, the Legacy suite is more like an oversized room than a suite. The blinds did not filter out the sunlight in the morning. My son complained in the morning, and asked me to shut off the lights. I did like the feel of the carpet in the room, soft and silky. I really prefer a tub rather than a shower.

Thank you for the kind review and this kind of reminds me of a review a bit farther down the list from here that talks about differences in styles of hotels. This review is on the other side of that review but it does continue to highlight the point that while we are all here to serve guests and deliver great service; our individual designs definitely create different atmospheres' I appreciate the objective assessment and we wish you all the best in your future travels. We went to brunch on Mother's Day unfortunately did not stay the nite. But we will next time. The buffet was amazing!! I have never seen anything like it. The staff was prompt to our needs. The chefs were friendly and suggested everything in a perfect manner. As for the food.. Incredible!! A 2 Thumbs up and a 10 Star rating from our family

We have been 2 times in this hotel, and each time seems to be better.
The hotel has a great location close to Gas lamp with plenty of restaurants to enjoy and just in front of the hotel a great shopping mall.
The rooms are comfortable and quite big with an excellent decoration.
But the best thing is the great service provided by the friendly and professional staff on this hotel.
In my opinion after visiting several hotels in San Diego is with no doubt the best one, great value, great location and great service...Congratulations

I stayed at The US Grant during my trip to San Diego on Friday, June 20th, 2014. I enjoyed my stay. This hotel has an old, vintage look and feel. It's a charming old hotel, with lots of history. It's a landmark in the area. The service I experienced from the staff exceeded my expectations. I can understand how some reviewers may have possibly had a bad experience. I noticed some staff members were slightly snobbish, with a 'holier than thou' attitude. I used the valet service for my rental car, which added an additional $39.00 (if I remember correctly) a night to my bill. The room itself was on the third floor, in the corner with a view of Broadway and 4th Avenue. I liked the decor of the room, the bathroom was large with a very nice shower. I did however notice the bathroom lacked a vent. During the day, our room had a lot of natural sunlight with the large windows. The location is hard to beat. It's right downtown, in the gas lamp district, with a large selection of pubs, night clubs, restaurants and diners. I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere. I enjoyed walking through the district, taking in the sights and sounds. The US Grant has a prestigious feel to it. It's a grand hotel.

While I appreciate many things of this review I do apologize for any perceived "holier than thou" attitude you may have experienced! There is a fine line between high service and snobby service and though we pride ourselves I walking that line, we do not wish to cross it! Most important to the Luxury Collection hotel brand is to be indigenous to your respective area... and San Diego definitely is not a snobby area! Our apologies for any misdirection and we will definitely refocus our efforts. Jared, Director of Front Office

A magnificent, nostalgic, truly beautiful old facility that oozes charm, history and culture but unfortunately doesn't have the staff to match. Cannot complain about the location or the accommodation rooms nor the Hotel facilities but the Hotel Reception staff, Desk Managers and Service Staff were down right rude and arrogant and certainly not accommodating toward a young family! The expense of the Hotel could not be justified after the poor interactions had with staff throughout our family stay.

I am sorry to hear about your experience! Though considering you mentioned the front desk staff as well as management I can only assume you must have had an issue that required escalation of several levels. Perhaps whatever the request or need was could not be accommodated? I am sorry for whatever your experience may have been as we take great pride in our service even over our location and historic charm. Hopefully we can rectify this on your next visit to San Diego which I think you enjoy since the Hotel Del is your profile picture. Another great historic property! Jared, Director of Front Office

We stayed here at the end of May as part of our holiday in San Diego. The Hotel is very impressive from outside and the foyer and reception was equally grand. We had an accessible room as I am in a wheelchair which suited us both. The actual corner suite was very comfortable. The staff were very friendly, service was impeccable nothing was too much trouble. The bar was great both for coffee and cocktails. We would most certainly stay here again.

Room Tip: We had a corner suite which was great

I would dare other hotels to see how many positive 5 star reviews they have coming from an accessible room! I must say, in all honestly, I love our Accessible King bed rooms. if I were staying in my own hotel tonight I would stay in one of these rooms over a normal superior king room. The location in the hotel is great, the room is spacious, and when Horton Plaza park across the street is done in 2015 it will probably have the most envious views of all the hotel! Great choice in booking and I would always recommend these rooms! Jared, Director of Front Office
