“Historic building, great location”
Reviewed 13 April 2014

We came to San Diego to see a baseball game at Petco Park and to enjoy all the other great things this city has to offer. The location of the hotel is excellent, just on the northern end of the gaslamp district within walking distance to the ballpark, seaport village and even the zoo. The staff were all very friendly and helpful with recommendations and directions. The building itself is beautiful - as others have mentioned the hotel took over an old bank building that was built right before the crash in the 1920's. Room on the 14th floor had a partial view of downtown. Tip - don't miss Balboa Park. It is an amazing gem. If you are up for a 30 minute walk, from the hotel head north on 6th to Laurel, turn right to go into Balboa Park. Another few minutes walk gets you to the Zoo, another not to be missed gem. Continue on Laurel to Park, head left (north) to the Zoo entrance.

My family (2 adults, 2 teens) recently visited San Diego and had an outstanding stay at the Downtown Courtyard. The location was excellent and the rooms spacious. Also, the staff was outstanding, providing excellent recommendations for meals in the area. Ask for a tour of the hotel. It is a wonderful historic building, and our tour was amazing.

We stayed in early March as part of a large wedding block. We were traveling with our 14-month-old toddler and couldn't have been more impressed with the service. Housekeeping had a very comfy pack-n-play waiting for us in our room, free of charge, and even thought to include Johnson's Baby Shampoo with the standard in-room amenities. They even gave us a little mini rubber ducky so our little girl would have a bath toy.

Bed was very comfortable, and the room was very clean. We were on a high floor so our view of the Gaslamp district was nice. Walls were a bit thin - could easily hear people moving around the halls late at might. But not thin enough you could pick up every word - our toddler had no trouble sleeping every night.

The Lobby restaurant was wonderful - attentive service, delicious food. They had some family booths off to the side with built-in televisions that looked like they'd be great if you were traveling older kids. We didn't use the fitness center, but it looked impressive.

Great proximity to everything in the Gaslamp, including Petco Park. Some great restaurants are literally right around the corner. San Diego is a very walkable city anyway, and their location just made it more convenient.

Mandatory valet parking was a drag and very expensive at $36/day (though we did have a lower rate with our wedding block rate). But the valet guys were super fast, literally sprinting up the block(s?) to wherever they had to park the cars.

Overall, it's a top notch establishment. We will definitely stay here again the next time we're traveling to downtown San Diego.

Room Tip: Higher floors have a view if you ask for it ahead of time.

This was a total redo of a classic old downtown bank building in San Diego. They saved the bank floor and made it into one of the best lobbies in town. Even repurposed the vault in the basement into a conference room. Rooms on upper floors have views, so ask for them. Rooms on lower floors are nice, but you look out onto another window, like someone's office. Upper floor gets a partial harbor and ocean view. One thing that I found odd was the room art. There was an etching in the bathroom of a giant octopus, like 20,000 Leagues ugly, that could give some people nightmares seeing it in the middle of the night.

Room Tip: Go for an upper floor.

This hotel has great customer service. The staff was all very helpful and nice. It was near going down to see the old bank vaults in the basement. The fitness center was one of the best I've seen. My only complaints are the $36 daily parking fee (valet only), and that the room walls seemed a bit thin. That, or maybe we had a parties going on in adjoining rooms.

I recently stayed at the Courtyard Marriott, and we were greeted by some of the friendliest staff. They made my friends and I feel welcomed from the moment the valet helped us, to the moment we checked in at the front desk. We had a great view from our room and everything was walking distance, which made our stay even better. I've already recommended the hotel to friends and plan on returning soon.

I cannot overstate the excellent customer service we experienced all through-reception/front desk. Sergio help us and went the extra mile to solve my queries, suggestions as to where to eat, and so on. Housekeeping, dining area couldn't have been nicer! Our room was very well done and kept.

This hotel exceeded my expectations and would not hesitate to recommend to anyone. We will be back for sure.
