My parents and I received an email inviting us to the Annual Engagement Party at the Bahia. Although we had already chosen the Bahia as our venue, we didn’t have all of our vendors and thought this would be a great opportunity to meet them. We ended up having a wonderful experience! The event was very well organized, but also laid back so we didn’t feel rushed. The Bahia staff went above and beyond, always making sure our drinks were topped and plates were stacked. The service was exceptional! It was awesome getting to meet different vendors in every room. Our time in the ballroom was my favorite. It was great how SleepingGiant played music near the dance floor and how Artistic Florals had several tables set up with their designs. Because of this event we were able to book our DJ, Florist and Photographer. It also cemented in our minds that we picked the best venue and made us even MORE excited for my wedding! If anything, I had wished the event was a little longer! Thank you Bahia for putting on a fun and informative event! I can't wait for my wedding day and I'm super stoked to be working with Kadi Duff, she's been great!

Over the past 5 year, I have put on 22 conferences at venues all over the US. My experience with Zack, Julie, Rebecca and the team at Bahia was impeccable. The beautiful location coupled with great service resulted in happy attendees. They were wonderful to work with from the start with Zack working to meet our sales needs within our budget, Julie who is an event planning pro and the team executing the conference. They handled our last minute requests with ease and even on the rainiest weekend of the year helped us pull off a seamless event. I really can't say enough. We will definitely be back.

As a lesbian couple, we experienced a lot of extra stress in trying to identify a venue that would be worthy of hosting our wedding. Based on welcoming and enthusiastic interaction with their staff, we were very pleased to select the Bahia Resort Hotel. Our wedding took place in mid-February 2014. Although we started with 6 months to plan, illness forced us to complete virtually all of the planning in 6 weeks. While there were some hiccups along the way (mostly due to the tight timeline), the wedding turned out beautifully, and we are extremely happy with the experience that we had.

Once we began planning in earnest, Macarena Carballo - Director of Catering - was our primary contact. She was incredibly patient with the illness-related delays, made sure we got definitive answers for a number of contract and decorating questions, and walked us through all of the phases of getting the contract ironed out. When our time and venues of choice became unavailable due to a conference, she went to bat for us, and was able to make our sunset wedding at the pond and Bahia Belle reception happen exactly as we had hoped.

After signing the contract, Macarena put us in the very capable hands of Beth Hunt, Catering Manager. Our first meeting with Beth featured 3 pages worth of questions from us, which did not phase her in the slightest. During our food tasting (tied with our cake tasting for the most glorious experience of the entire planning process), Beth seamlessly helped us to create a schedule for our reception - an overwhelming item on our to-do list - and guided us on a timeline for contacting cake and floral vendors. She also fielded more than one panicked phone call from her brides as the day drew closer, always handling it calmly and effectively. Beth helped us finalize our menu selections, and when our final headcount put us below the minimum spend for our contract, she put together amazing upgrade options for us to consider. When it was discovered at the last minute that the ceremony site chairs would not meet the needs of our guests, Beth worked quickly and efficiently to have them changed out for ones that did. When the big day finally arrived, the decor at the ceremony and reception sites was absolutely perfect, and many of our guests absolutely raved about the food… as did we! The food ranged from quite good to absolutely amazing, and there wasn’t a single dish that we regretted choosing.

After the wedding ceremony, the “cocktail hour” (our wedding was dry) and reception all came together flawlessly in the capable hands of our Banquet Captain, Cheryl. She oversaw all of the staff aboard the Bahia Belle during hors d’oeuvres service, dinner, and two back-to-back hour long bay cruises that also included the cutting of the cake. Cheryl and the staff were very unobtrusive while also providing excellent service, both of which are especially impressive considering that the Belle is a relatively small space. Cheryl also coordinated with us on embarkation and docking times, adjusting as necessary to accommodate our guests’ needs, and when the time came for the cutting of the cake, she and the staff had already arranged everything we needed immediately at hand, and cake was getting into our guests’ hands almost immediately after we finished the first cutting.

Another key player in the wedding was Jamie Rury, our day-of coordinator. The Bahia requires that you designate a coordinator for the day, but you are free to either provide your own or work with one of their select coordinators (in which case the additional cost is folded into the contract). We opted for one of their coordinators, and are very happy that we ended up working with Jamie. She first met us the night before the wedding at our informal rehearsal, where she displayed incredible patience as we rehearsed our entrance skit over and over and over again, running significantly later than she was supposed to be there. The next day, she immediately became a solver of crises, discoverer of oversights, decorator of the reception venue, orchestrator of wedding party members, and - as if that wasn’t already enough - learned to operate the sound console for the audio. When we found ourselves without a towel and needing to dry our hands, she instantly offered her sleeve. In short, every issue that came up while Jamie was present (from well before the guests arrived until we started dinner at the reception) was resolved seemingly magically, and every detail that could have slipped through the cracks didn’t. Through it all she was also a warm, encouraging, and supportive presence, and even though we had just met, it almost felt like she was a member of the wedding party.

There were also a few areas of the process that we felt could be improved. The first negative we encountered was the standard paperwork. While everyone we worked with was warm and welcoming, the Bahia paperwork is (or at least was) written explicitly for heterosexual couples. That might not sound like a big deal, but with all of the discrimination we face in the world, reading “bride and groom” on your contract can really be a slap in the face, and we hope that they will fix it soon. Second, while our idea of putting rainbow bunting and flags on the outside of the Belle was initially met with enthusiasm, somebody higher up in the food chain vetoed the idea later, expressing concerns about brand consistency (the Belle is done up in US flag decor externally). We respect their decision, and have no reason to think it was specifically the rainbows that were an issue, but it was still a disappointment… especially in light of the paperwork. Finally, while the standard contract includes a room for the wedding night, it does not include any reserved space for preparations on the day of the wedding. We paid over $300 to reserve that same room the night before as well, and it was well worth the money, but it would have been nice to see more of a discount for that or some sort of alternate space for preparations.

Overall, we had an excellent experience with the Bahia and all of the staff. Our wedding was absolutely everything we dreamed it could be (and more), thanks in no small part to the beautiful venue and the wonderful people with whom we had the pleasure of working.

I booked this hotel using Expedia secret program, so it was really good deal. Upon arrival we have to wait for few hours for our room to be ready but we came really early so it's understandable.

Pros:
- Location. Beachfront property close to Pacific beach, Belmont park, SeaWorld and Old Town
- Free parking.
- Good on-site restaurant and bar. Reasonably priced with great food. Try their Bahia Mojito!
- Free boat rides at night between Bahia and Catamaran resort.

Cons:
- A little bit too noisy at night

We stayed on 3rd floor in the main building. I think it was the cheapest room there but it was really big with 2 beds, sofa and kitchenette. It was clean and quite modern. There were fridge, microwave and toaster, as well as simple coffee machine.

Overall, I would recommend this property to everyone, especially if you can get it a good deal.

Stayed there for a friend`s wedding in mid February. The front desk was very helpful and friendly. Evan sent over a maintenance man with bolt cutters when my friend did not have the key to unlock her suitcase! It was not overcrowded at all. The room`s carpets were not the most up to date, but if that is the only downside then life is pretty good. My room was right along the beach and water. SO beautiful. Their pool and hot tub were awesome! The hot tub could fit 30 people. Room service was reasonably priced. But the food at the main lobby bar was outstanding. The resort`s gift shop had everything we needed, bobby pins, hair spray, and single beers! Which is perfect since I only wanted 2. I really appreciated this place after we went over to the Hotel del Coronado where my friend was married. It was so packed there we just wanted to get out of there! I then could really appreciate how peaceful this place was to hang on the beach. You are paying for the view here. I had a great experience here. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: I choose a "Bay Side" suite. The door to my room opened up to the beach and water, with my...

I have stayed at Bahia 4-5 times now, returning annually for a conference. The staff are very attentive and accommodating. They are friendly and relaxed. I think this, along with the location are the main reasons I enjoy coming to Bahia. They offer suites with kitchens and kitchenettes, which can help when staying for longer trips. The location is great and most rooms offer nice views of the water, boats, waterfowl, etc. The grounds are well kept and lovely. The rooms need some updating and can be a little musty, but given the staff's willingness to provide you with your needs, it makes it well worth it. They offer our organization a variety of discounted rates for the conference, due to the length of the event. They've made us feel well at home when coming back.
