In addition to tours of the Canyon de Chelly National Monument, cultural consulting needs are addressed on a case by case basis for those who seek a more intimate insight onto the Navajo Way. Leon has assisted film-makers on location in Navajoland and is used to delivering high quality services to the people and organizations he serves. There are over 2700 archaeological sites within the many canyons of Canyon de Chelly National Monument. Only 13 of the 700 standing ruins have been stabilized, re-inforced, or protected from degradation. We are professional Navajo guides who can teach you the history of our canyons and about the Anasazi, Hopi and Navajo peoples. “Canyon de Chelly--Jeep Tour with Deswood Yazzie A++”

After touring the south rim on our own, we decided we wanted to go into the canyon and for that you must have a Navajo guide. We read reviews and looked at literature and decided to go with Des Yazzie. He was willing to adjust the starting time (we stayed in Gallup so needed more time to get to Chinle) and was willing to go for 4 hours instead of the usual 3. He was a wonderful guide who explained about the rock art and drove us around the canyon in a 4WD truck--must more comfortable and roomy than a jeep, especially since I wanted to photograph a lot. I highly recommend him as a guide. The trip was definitely worth every dollar. There was no pressure to "shop" while we were in the canyon and he was prompt in meeting us.

“Mere words can't convey awe! Overwhelming and majestic.”

We took a half day tour and saw 1/3 of the entire canyon but it was a lot. Try to get on a tour in the open top jeep - the guide can navigate through the water so you can get a closer look at the petroglyphs on the cliff faces. You have to hire a guide to enter the canyon, it is off limits without a guide. I saw people riding in regular sedans and those cars can't navigate through the shallow river bottoms, nor can you look up at the sky and see the cliffs.
