The rooms at Sacred Canyon Lodge are very basic but we were pleased to be able to stay so close to the park. The beds are comfortable and the room was very quiet. The cafeteria has extremely basic food like Salisbury steak, canned veggies, but good burgers. Order the burger for the best food. The people who work at the motel are friendly.

Thank you for the rating and review of your stay at Thunderbird Lodge/Sacred Lodge in Canyon De Chelly.

Navajo Nation Hospitality Enterprise took over management of the Lodge in January 2016. Since then many improvements and upgrades have been made to the guest rooms as well as the property and surroundings. All guest rooms now are equipped with a Keurig coffee/tea maker, flat screen television, hair dryer, microwave and mini-fridge. All the rooms have new carpet, mattresses, linens and towels. The wifi has been updated, but still may not be as fast as what some people are used to given the remote area.

We also are offering All-Day and 4-Hour Navajo-guided tours of the Canyon in our 10 passenger, 6-wheel drive Pinzgauer army-troop carrier vehicles. It is the best way to really experience Canyon De Chelly.

Should your journey bring you back to Canyon De Chelly, we hope to welcome you back to Thunderbird Lodge.

All our best,
Thunderbird Lodge Management

Well, definitely dated and basic. Clean and comfortable enough. We really enjoyed the "being at camp" atmosphere, walking back and forth to the store or cafeteria. I was up very early, still dark, moon, stars and QUIET. Really added to our entire Canyon de Chelly experience.

First the good bits. It had good towels and the bed and sheets were fine. The shortcomings, in our room at least (and some rooms may already be renovated) were : no coffee/ coffee maker, no breakfast, ancient plumbing, carpet and TV, no hair drier and smallish room. The main draw back though, was that it was well over $100 with tax, about twice the rate for better rooms we have had recently.

A rustic facility in a beautiful setting & run by the Navajos. Ideal for Canyon de Chelley tour. Formerly the Thunderbird Lodge. Rooms are small & noisy due to thin walls. A saving grace is the oh so comfortable beds. Onsite cafeteria food was okay for breakfast. Seemed a bit expensive to us.

Some reviews have said "basic", I guess they are from folks who normally travel in big city, high end hotels only. This is a motel, and it really is a long way from anywhere, if you are here it's to see Canyon De Chelley. The setting is great, not anywhere near a road, gas station or fast food joint. The rooms are large and clean, the bed had a foam topper on it which was very warm and comfy. As with all motels you have some noise from neighbors but this was a non issue for me. Cafe food was very good, both dinner and breakfast and at a reasonable price. Tv and wifi worked fine as well. As for the odor in the bathroom someone whined about, I didn't notice it, but I did smell well water, yep some people live off of well water! Overall I would stay here again and recommend it to friends.
