Beachcomber is still a place to visit, no doubt- but be aware that you will need to add 20 dollars to your bill. No big deal if you are spending the day at the beach as well. But a complete scam nad rip off if you just want to get something to eat or drink.

The parking around the restaurant at my last visit was resident only.

The dunes, the location and the atmosphere has been and is the same. The food is good and the views are awesome. The history of the location is great as well.

Don't let the 20 dollars stop you. But don't believe them when they say the parking lot is full. It is not. It is now resident only. You have to park a mile or two down the road, the only parking and it is a 20 dollar parking lot. A van then takes you but not all the way to the beachcomber.

Unfortunately, they've also got quiet the scam going and until it changes I wont be going back. I've been and I used to take friends. We will got to the squire in Chatham from now on.

I'd recommend challenging them on the "full parking lot" scam and then knocking down your tip until they find a better solution and the staff forces it.

The one thing this restaurant does offer is a good raw bar.
That being said, the day of our visit we the place was filled with people that were too drunk to walk, they were allowed to stumble down to the beach with drinks, and continued to be served.
We had 3 older children with us and after waiting for an hour we were offered a picnic table outside beside the bar with drunk people sitting on it (I won't share the disgusting PDA info). After declining the table, we were offered a seat inside (better).
Pass on the clam chowder (cream and potatoes). The crab cake sandwiches had a chance if they hadn't been completely burnt on the bottom. We were served a raw hamburger (ordered medium), that had blood dripping out of it and a huge thumbhole through the bottom. The waitress was rude and uninvested. She brought the burger back to the kitchen and returned it completely burnt. The only time we saw her after that is when she dropped the check off.
The staff does not smile, they don't care if you're comfortable, and they do not care if you stay or go.
This restaurant has a great location that they do not respect. They allow drunk people to go down to the beach, fall all over the place, get sick and leave their garbage (empty drink cups) to pollute our national sea shore.
I would never suggest this place to any friend of mine.

This is the quintessential casual beach place. Great for families or for couples. Very good burgers, teriyaki chicken sandwiches and more. Feels more like a local place than a tourist trap. Worth the 5 min extra drive off Rt. 6.

The upper cape is fantastic and the Beachcomber and Cahoon Hollow beach is a great way to end a summer beach day. Restaurant has a great atmosphere, noisy and lively, a wide selection and the food is good. The servers are great and work together to take care of customers. After eating you can take a stroll outside and head a few hundred feet down to the beach. Try this one out you will not be disappointed

Ok.. Here is the deal. If you dont live on the Cape you would NOT likely know these little facts about the way this operation runs.

1) the beachcomber is ALWAYS packed. They overlook a beautiful beach and people love to be able to drink, eat & swim.

2) the townies get parking passes for a small fee and are gauranteed a certain amount of spots in their very small parking lot. This means no pass... Better get there the second they open if you want to park on the actual lot.

3) if you dont get there early.. Lot is full, you will see an attendent at the top of the hill standing in front of his "lot is full" sign and yeilding Cone to block non residents from going down.. Bye the way (they are all tools!). Dont expect them to offer much as they are cranky gate keepers who have a small sense of power over your good time.

4) they will tell you to park about a mile down the road and take a shuttle over.

5) shuttle or parking lot cost you $$ either way and it seems to vary from weekday to weekend.. Its a racket. They claim the town gets the money but who knows.

6) if you park in the shuttle lot, there is a beach directly across the street which is adequate for family fun, its a steep descent at both beaches so stay tight to the dune when going down as the outside path is softer and rocky.

7). Wellfleet beaches are known for crazy waves up to 10 feet depending on the tide... Not great for little ones but lots of fun.

8) what comes down must go up... This hill stinks so bring only what you need.

9) if you do go to the beachcomber you can expect sub par service, okay food.. And oddly.. A cover charge at around 4pm if you need to go just to the bathroom! Its another racket but its how they pay for the entertainment and to their defense.. Everyone has to use the bathroom!

10) there is another beach you may roll up to and youll see plenty of open spots.. Sorry.. Not open to non residents.

My point.. Beach is awesome, beachcomber is a racket but serves a neat purpose and between they and the town know this priceless combo means you'll pay and deal. Come prepared and you'll have some fun.
