Van Rensselaer's is on Rt. 6, just north of North Eastham, and we had passed by many times during our annual vacations in Eastham. We never tried it because we usually cook at home, and when we do eat out, it is usually lunch at one of the great clam shacks (Friendly Fisherman, PJs, Arnolds, Cooke's, Mac's on the Pier. We had more family than usual this year at our rental, and most of them wanted to eat at a restaurant on Saturday night. We search Tripadvisor and chose Van Renssalaer. We were not disappointed. Our reservation was acknowledged immediately and we were seated in just a few minutes. We had a great waiter, personable and attentive, and he gave us ample time to chose drinks and explore the very good menu. The food choices were terrific, and the specials were generous and delicious (I thought the baked oysters were exceptional). After a week of steady seafood, I chose the prime rib which was excellent, cooked to order and served hot with generous sides. Everyone else stayed with the seafood items which were prepared with style and delicious too (great scallops, excellent pasta, perfectly cooked whole fish), . We all shared a great desert which looked like an enormous ice cream sandwich with whipped cream and fruit. The wine and beer selections were very good in quality and value.
If you don't care about a restaurant with a water view, this is a great place to go for a great meal at a reasonable price. We would certainly return on our next trip.
