Owner description: Fanciful and elaborate gardens were kept to entertain Queen Elizabeth I during her reign. Our garden was created for your enjoyment, and as a living memorial to the time when Sir Walter Raleigh’s lost colonists lived in this very place over 400 years ago. The Elizabethan Gardens is a project of the Garden Club of North Carolina. Located 15 minutes from Nags Head, North Carolina. Special features include: Italian renaissance statuary, water views, gift shop and plant sales, mobile phone audio tour. Plant collections include: native plants, azaleas, crape mrytles, hydrangeas, conifers and seasonal blooms. Our dapple-shaded paths and lush green Scape offer a tranquil retreat from the beach. We are pet friendly. Our walkways are handicap accessible.

The weather was hot when we visited, but the shade provided the needed refreshing coolness. Not that much was in bloom, but the greenery was fun as were the staues. A good time was had by all.

We enjoyed our visit to the Elizabethan Gardens. Flowers were beautiful. Grounds are well kept. Admission was a little high for the size/kind of attraction.

Beautiful in April when azaleas are in full bloom. Nice walk through well maintained formal garden. Interestingly, much of the work at the garden is done by volunteers. I was impressed.

Whether or not you are a keen gardener, these lovely gardens are well worth a stroll. Set mainly in woodland they provide a lovely shady walk on a hot day and are very well maintained. I note some other reviewers complaining that $9 per person is a bit steep and although we were happy enough to pay it, I can accept that point of view and agree that $5 to $6 per person would be more realistic in terms of value.

If you can afford he $9 however - I would recommend a visit.
