“Good location and family atmosphere in nice setting on a ranch”
Reviewed 3 June 2012

We stayed one night in the Cowboy Homestead Cabins, as we were passing through on our round trip in Utah. The location on a ranch with scenic views is really nice. Only a 10 min drive into the small town and 15 min to the Capitol Reef NP. The Host Don is very friendly and welcoming. The night we were there, he and his son+friends where practicing for a rodeo. He invited us to come over and watch them, which was really exciting for us.

The cabins were clean and relatively spacious, the bathroom though could have been a bit bigger-but not really an issue for us. If you stay on planning longer like a couple of days and would want to cook in the kitchen, we thought the equipment was expandable.

We can recommend the Cowboy Homestead Cabins and we would definitly come again. But do not expect luxury. We found the biggest asset are the friendly and knowledgeable hosts .

We only stayed one night here but was really nice. Nice hosts, cabins, location and price. The resident animals who greeted us were nice; the dog visited us at our cabin after we settled in, enjoying the view and peacefulness from the porch. We could have eaten in our room if wanted to; has BBQ outside.

Quibbles:
1) No directions on web site for coming from East (on Rt. 24 from Hanksville, UT Rt. 95). he Our Verizon phone's GPS service let me send the location to my phone from VZNavigator.com web site but the area is so remote that could not get the phone's GPS service to start nearby. Luckily, one of our tour books said it was located on highway 12 from Torrey and we found it.
2) Not enough cabins to have an outdoor ice machine which may have ruined the vibe anyway. But perhaps more than one ice cube tray would have helped and an ice maker in lare fridge would be awesome.

Great spot to stay for exploring Capitol Reef and the area. We had let the owners know we might be arriving late so were given directions to our cabin and told the light would be on and the door unlocked, which it was. Cabin was spacious and very clean with good hot water for showers. Kitchenette (small fridge, microwave, small sink, counter) was compact and had a few plates and utensils. Would have appreciated a bottle opener and a small paring knife for cutting fruits and veggies as well as a few glasses, not just hotel wrapped plastic ones. Front porch was a great spot for watching sunrise, sunset, the stars and even the deer that walked by. There is a charcoal grill and outside picnic table but we did not use either of those. Would definitely stay here again.

We rented 3 cabins for 2 nights, and absolutely loved it! The owners were extremely friendly, truly a family atmosphere. Cabin looked like they were built yesterday, even though they are several years old. Our cabin had new carpet, and our family's had new looking wood flooring. I could not find a spider web or piece of dirt if I tried! We fell in love with Bandit, the ranch hand dog! So friendly and our kids had a great time watching the owners rope the steer on horseback. I wouldn't stay anywhere else when heading to Capitol Reef NP! Beautiful grounds, beautiful cabins, wonderful stay!

I've been to the Capital Reef National Park area several times over the last few years. None of the motels in town really do anything for me, so when I came across Cowboy Homestead Cottages on the internet, thought I'd give it a try....Well, it's a "decent enough" place to stay, but nothing to get excited about.

PROs:
*On a working ranch, with very scenic surroundings
*Located just a few short miles outside of Torrey - close enough to get into town quickly (for restaurants, etc), but far enough outside to feel that you are in away from civilization
*Cabin is a big size
*Comfortable beds

CONs:
*The four cabins are very close together; you are pretty much on top of your neighbors. The ranch is quite large and they easily could have given a less claustrophobic feeling by building them farther apart from each other
*Advertised as luxury cabins -- HUH? I definitely wouldn't apply the term "luxury" here - comfortable and basic, yes; deluxe, NO
*No stove in the kitchenette. Hey, most chain motels give you a microwave and small fridge these days, so no improvement here over Super 8 etc.
*No wi-fi signal more than 20 feet from the main house. If you want to surf the net, you have to sit outside in a little area close to the owners' home. Not fun in the Summer (when it is very hot out) or Winter (when it can be very cold, particularly at night)
*There was no water available in the morning the day I left. Wasn't able to take a shower. I wanted to hit the road quickly, so I didn't bring this up with the owners, but this was kind of a big problem

Overall, it's not a bad place to stay....But I'm going to keep looking for something nicer in the area.

I stayed here for two nights in late October. The cabin was bigger than it looked from the outside, and had a lounge area/couch and coffee table that I was unaware of, so, very spacious and comfortable.
I would definitely stay here again.

We stayed one night here on our grand tour of the five southern Utah National Pakrs and were pleasantly surprised. The Route 12 Scenic Byway is an awe inspiring drive but most of the towns along the way are small. We chose the Cowboy Homestead from previous reviews and were glad that we did. There are just four log cabins on the edge of a small ranch. The owner was very friendly and made us feel right at home.

The cabin itself is clean and comfortable and has all the basic things you need for a short stay. We did have a TV which was a step up from our cabin the previous night at Kodachrome Basin State Park. WiFi worked only if we walked a little closer to the main house but not a big deal. All in all it was a good place to stay for one night and you can beat the price!

Room Tip: You only have 4 cabins to choose from and they are all in a row. I think the only difference is kin...
