We spent a week in 401 Summey house, we had 3 BR 2 baths, kitchen dining room and living room and A/C. Not to mention two porches one facing the pool was always sunny and bright, when the sun became too much the back is shaded and cooled my many trees. We loved our accommodations it was clean peaceful and an economical way for 5 people to enjoy a family reunion and visits. We will go back again, it was a wonderful escape. Next time I will bring my fishing pole. Having the option of a fully equipped kitchen right down to the cork screw allowed us to control costs as well as what, when and where we ate which is great with kids..

Suite 401 is very comfortable for a family of for family reunions. The fishing is good in the summer, can catch bass, brim or blue gill.

My wife, daughter, sister, and I stayed here for 3 nights during a visit to family who live nearby. We stayed in room 102, which is a 2-level unit (2 bedrooms, 2 baths, kitchen, and small living room) in the top of the old mill house. As advertised, the sound of water flowing through the millrace soothed those sleeping in the 2-twin room.

My sister called the place charming, which pretty well covers it: that is, the furnishings are not pristine, the layout is a bit tight, the decore is ...charming. But it is clean, quiet, and well situated. The property is soothing, with a mill pond (canoes to use), fresh mountain air, and quiet. The beds are comfortable and we all slept well. The price was reasonable, drifting from $149 the first night to $89 the third.

The location is superb: the Sandberg home and Playhouse are within walking distance (but sfer to drive as the roads are pretty tight). Best of all, the Lodge is very near the Flat Rock Bakery (excellent pastries, coffee, and bread!--clearly a local favorite--and the Flat Rock Cinemas (which are almost not to be missed): caberet seating, with beer and wine available--arrive a bit early to get the best seats. We saw The Conspirator and the print and sound were great--first-run theater quality, if you'll compromise a bit on the booming, umpteen speaker suround sound. And the price is $7 a ticket--highly recommended for a quiet evening or rainy day.

Room Tip: Old mill house has more character than lodges.

Thanks for visiting. I hope that you will stay with us again when you are in the area. The sound of the waterfall helps many to drift off in the evening after a busy day in the area.

We stayed here for our Spring vacation. We had a wonderful time. We enjoyed the lake, fishing, and the quiet area. It is a place to go if you want some quiet time in nature. Room was very clean, staff very friendly, and you get fresh towels and wash clothes daily. Had a great stay at Mill House. If you like fishing, canoes, paddle boats, and a cool porch to sit on this is the place to stay. We stayed in Lakeview. It is a good place to stay. We have also stayed in Dogwood. I would recommend this to anyone planning a mountain vacation. It is not too far from downtown shops in Hendersonville, NC. If you like consignment shops there are a few near the Mill House. The owner is very friendly.

Room Tip: Lakeview 303, and Dogwood 601 good rooms.

Glad that your vacation was relaxing, many find it very peaceful to sit on the porch and just look out over the lake; either Dogwood or Lakeview are perfect for that.
We look forward to seeing you next spring.

We go up every spring to MHL for last 15 years. Always quiet, even when full. Sit on the porch, facing the lake, read or Wi-Fi. Less than a mile from Carl Sandburg home, Flat Rock (live) Theater, a cinema, wonderful bakery at Speckled Egg, yet still feels "in the woods". Visit Flat Rock Theater on line and build an outing of a few days around a production you would like to see. Lake for canoeing, and a swimming pool. Bob in the office (owner/manager) is friendly and helpful. New mattresses this year. Mine had pillow-top. Top notch.

Room Tip: Website is very helpful in choosing a room.

Glad that we were able to provide you with comfortable accommodations. Offering various specials throughout the year seems to give more a chance to get-away in this crazy economy.

That is the only positive attribute of this tired old property. It is very close to the Sandburg House, and just a couple of blocks walk from a quaint row of shops. For this convenience you will endure filthy rooms (blinds had not been cleaned in years, bloody band-aid on sheets, and lots of bugs!), indifferent management, and premium rates. Parking is hap-hazard and the driveway shared with an apartment complex making for a traffic jamb every work morning. If you can stay somewhere else do yourself the favor.
