I would give Sitting Bull Falls a 5 star. Although parking can be an issue on weekends during the week it’s not too bad. The volunteer Rangers are working hard to meet this problem too. About 10 years ago my husband went up here for a picnic at the end of the day. This month we went back with our grandson who really enjoyed it. I would recommend bringing a swimsuit just to be on the safe side. This place also provides picnic tables (most are covered) and hiking including minor rock climbing. It also has restrooms. One needs to be careful as there are no lifeguards.

this location is an oasis in the middle of the desert! they have a paved walk path as well as more challenging activities. it is a wonderful surprise! All should see this, and is worth the drive. then go over to Queens and have one of the best hamburgers and desserts. Great day.

I really wanted to visit here. If you are planning to visit here while in Carlsbad you ma want to check to see if the day use area is open as this is quite a drive.

As people have said it is off the beaten track but it a great opportunity to see the vastness of the dessert. There were several places where the cows were on the road. Had to stop and maneuver through them- they were not moving. The waterfall is only a bit more than a trickle, but pretty none the less. The kids were having a great time in the water!!!

By the way- a senior national park pass waived the parking fee.
I accidentally dropped my passport and the ranger brought it to me at the falls. Thanks so much!!! Above and beyond.

Really enjoyed the trip out there. It's out of the way a bit but still kind of busy, but the waterfall is beautiful and the water is shallow enough to walk around and explore around it. A great way to spend a hot day.
