“Great place to stay”
Reviewed 1 August 2013

We stayed here for a night on our way to Roswell. The cabins were clean, the staff were super friendly and all of the amenities were good. The pool and surrounding area was clean and a great place to hang out. The cabins were spacious enough and there was heaps of room around the cabins to have a cookout etc.

We stayed here on a road trip through New Mexico. We spent the day at Carlsbad Caverns and were headed to Roswell the next day, so the location was perfectly on our way. We stayed in a cabin with no bathroom. The mattresses were the normal plastic foam. Our girls enjoyed the pool. The public bathrooms/showers were air conditioned which was very nice. There were 3 showers and the bathrooms were clean. The lack of shade was tough, but we did have one tree behind our cabin, so we had some shade. The staff were very nice and helpful! Would stay here again!

A family of 5 traveling with 2 adults and 3 kids, ages 3-8. We thought the employees at the campground were very kind, courteous and helpful. The pool was clean and cool. The park was very clean and felt secure. Bathrooms were exceptionally clean. We thought the personalized touch of adding our name to the welcome board was really nice. The only drawback we felt was the layout of the park. We were glad we opted for the “tent village” because the tent sites were out in the open with no cover or privacy. However, had there been any other campers in the village (we were the only ones) we don’t know how private it would have felt as each site was separated by a privacy fence so we would have been back-to-back with all other camping groups. Vehicles come and go all hours of the night and over the rock drive it was a parade of noise all throughout the night. Being that there is a single entrance and exit, all the RV’s/trucks pass the tent sites and village so the noise in unavoidable. If we were to return to this campground, we would opt for one of the cabins in hopes of cutting down on that noise. The drive to Carlsbad Caverns was only about 30-45 minutes, which we were prepared for.

Room Tip: If you are intending to camp and are a light sleeper, you may want to opt for the cabin instead as t...

This park is nowhere near Carlsbad Caverns (GPS location is Artesia); other RV parks are 30 min. closer to the National Park. Fairly godforsaken site, though that is typical in the area. The deal-breaker is the spectacularly rude, surly staff. Ex-prison guards? One of these storm-troopers yelled at my wife for over five minutes, reducing her to tears, after which he and the owner shook hands in self-congratulation. Apparently, this is the closest they get to sport. Think we'll be back? Think again.

I say that only because this place is closer to Artesia than the Carlsbad Caverns....which is where I'd imagine most travelers like us would use it for.

That being said, it was a very nice park: clean and well appointed with nice wide sites and easy hook-ups. I wasn't thrilled with the fact that the sites were gravel (I prefer concrete or asphalt) but they were level and well groomed.

The staff was top-notch and the facilities were great. We'll stay there again given the chance.

As a teacher who leads a group of 15-20 students and chaperones into the southwest every other year we don't ask for much. During our 15-17 trip we tent camp every night at various campgrounds around the southwest and aren't looking for anything special. This year as in years past we stayed at this establishment. We don't mind the over 45 minute drive to Carlsbad Caverns. We don't mind the less than perfect internet service. We don't mind the fact that the pool is small (pools are an extra bonus to us). We stay at places like KOA to have some "comfort" for the kids and relaxation in between our more "primitive" campsites where we don't have showers, electricity, etc. All we DO ask for, and this isn't much of a stretch, is to be treated with courtesy. Upon arrival the manager / owner made his presence known. Even though there was much space to park in we had to park in the spots he wanted. Going to our tent sites we had to pull the vehicles the way he wanted which made it harder for us to unload all our supplies (as we are a large group that packed supplies and food for a 17 day southwest trip). Since we arrived later in the day from exploring the caverns, I talked to the friendly people at the front desk to see if they could extend the game room hours so our kids could spend some time relaxing after a long driving day. She said we could stay longer than regular hours as long as an adult was in the room to supervise. However when the regular closing hours came around we were kicked out by the same manager / owner. I explained what the front desk said and he responded coldly and told us we had to leave. Clear miscommunication happened and the result were kids that were excited about something that didn't happen. This campground will not see our business again and I encourage others who read this to take my warning.

We had stayed there spring break several years ago, for a week, in the upgraded tent camping. The park has little vegetation as it is the desert out there. The tent circle had wind breaks and electricity. While there, we day tripped to Carlsbad Caverns, Sitting Bull Falls, Roswell, Cloudcroft to go sledding, and twice to Guadalupe Mountains National Park. This last trip, we got a regular tent site. We stayed just overnight, with an early departure in the morning. The rec room is huge, you can watch tv, play games, do a puzzle, get wifi, have some food from their kitchen, or buy something microwavable in their store. There is a pool which we used, which is a little small, but still, clean, and refreshing. The bathrooms are great. Plenty of space, new, clean, stocked, and hot water when you want it. The owners son commented on how cool my son's "Road trip" shirt was and took a picture of it to send his folks. He was happy to see his KOA on there twice.
