The food was the best part of the experience, particularly the cauliflower and brussel sprout soup, although the halibut was overcooked for such a thin piece. What disappointed us was the service which was casual at best. We were told that the upstairs was closed, only to find that immediately afterwards others were offered the choice. When it came to ordering, several lunch items were no longer available and there was no sparkling water available. The tap water we asked for came without ice. However, the worst aspect came at the end when we went to use the bathrooms. The changes to the restaurant have not extended to the basement where thebathrooms are situated and the dirty carpet that led downstairs had a lingering smell of vomit which was nauseating. The bathrooms themselves are badly in need of reburbishment. This was our first stop on a reurn to New York after a year and we anticipated the changes to Bouley's eagerly. We are unlikely to return.
