Owner description: The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the people of the United States and is a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. The Statue of Liberty was dedicated on October 28, 1886, designated as a National Monument in 1924 and restored for her centennial on July 4, 1986.

This item would definitely be on your bucket list if you're in New York and it surely wont disappoint. The ferry ride from Liberty State Park to Ellis Island and onward to the statue is great providing good commentary and views of Manhattan. The Statue and its surroundings is well maintained and the souvenir shop offers quite a lot though pricey. The food options in the island is also nice.

Don't forget to book in advance. There's a bit of lining up to do to get on the boat, but once you are on Liberty island you can go at your own pace. The audio tour is free and well worth doing. We didn't go inside the statue (tickets for that are limited) but don't feel we missed much - the audio tour was plenty.

My kids (9 and 6) have been asking to see the Statue of Liberty for a couple of years now. Before boarding the ferry you do have to go through airport security so don’t bring anything you don’t really need. The ferry ride over was a lot of fun! Upon arriving at the island we went straight to the pedestal. We opted to take the stairs instead of the elevator. This was my kids favorite part. I definitely recommend getting pedestal or crown tickets. These need to be purchased online in advance. There is a nice cafe in the island but be aware that during peak times the wait can be 30-45 mins. If I could change anything about our trip it would be to skip Ellis Island. While it is an incredibly important part of history the museum interpretation isn’t well done, especially for children. It’s mostly just pictures and things to read. It does not do a good job of bringing the immigrant’s experience to life. By this point the kids were bored and tired. This was the highlight of our trip to NYC and something everyone should do once.

Another Landmark you need to see at least once in your lifetime. Absolutely packed with people and almost as much security. Lucky we traveled light and comfortable as depending on your age it can get a bit tireing. Due to the huge lineups and not having pre-booked tickets, we just took a Ferry ride which we found ample and good enough for a few photos etc. I have to say the statue is quite impressive if you like that sort of thing.

I booked our tickets 3 months in advance but still couldn't get tickets to the crown. I was able to get tickets to the pedestal, but don't recommend that. If you can't get tickets to the crown, save your money and just visit the statue. The pedestal is only 1/4 the way up the statue and doesn't provide much of a better view or experience than you can get on the ground. Being close the statue is what matters - and it's such a powerful experience.

Also, make sure you find out where the boat is located that takes you to the statue. It's not obvious and many people take the Staten Island Ferry thinking it will take them to the statue.

Last, but not least, reserve tickets that avoid the long, long lines. It's unreal how long the "normal" line is to get through security and on to the boat.

My advice - book early and avoid the long lines. If you can't get access to the crown, save your money and just visit the statue.
