Thank goodness that this piece of American history has been restored for all to see. It is amazing how our ancestors came to America and were processed through this structure. Starting off, the cost is $17 with tickets being purchased on line or at the ticket offices in Battery Park, NY or Liberty Park, NJ. I would suggest on line as it gives you priority in boarding. The cost includes your ferry ride to both the Stature of Liberty and Ellis Island. A wonderful value. Upon arrival at the island, you enter the building and can pick up an audio guide for your own tour. This takes about 45 minutes and gives you a fascinating perspective on what our relatives went through. You can also sign up for the guided tour with a park range that is free of charge. The restoration is amazing, especially when you see the photos of the process. I would highly recommend this for anyone visiting New York.

I spent half a day here and wished for more time. My grand parents arrived in the US through Ellis and are in the rolls. It was so moving see see what the experience was like. The exhitits describe the entry process and you can follow the path that so many did when arriving here. It was eecially moving as when i entered the grand hall there was a tour group of kids from Europe speaking my grandfathers language.

The boat ride to Ellis Island is pare of the fun. It is nice to look for family names on the outside wall. The museum is very educational but fun to walk through. This is a must for all visitors.
