We changed our original plans and went to MOMA on free Fridays after 4pm, so due to one reason or another we only had a short visit.
We firstly called in at the cafe where we the lemon chiffon cake , which the waitress described as heaven on a plate - it was nice but I have tasted better - it was a kind of lemon sponge with drizzled icing.
Our friend had cheesecake which was nice.
We then strolled up to the 5th floor to view Monets water lilies and Van Goghs Starry Night.
The museum itself is a big bright space - would have liked to have seen the courtyard garden but didn't have time.
I may go again but only on free Fridays.

Found our visit was educational, but disappointed by the lack of artists represented. Highlight was seeing VanGogh's Starry Starry Night. Saw some Picasso, Salvadore Dali as well as a couple of Monet pictures. A lot of the art was honestly over our head.

Brilliant museum. With some amazing pieces on display. We were lucky to visit when a Gaugin exhibition was on.

The museum staff were lovely with the exception of the cloakroom attendants who were very abrupt.

The audio tour was good but I had to replace mine 4 times because of a 'network failure' - it was annoying to keep having to go down to the ground floor to get a replacement. Plus you have to hand over photo id (no passports) before you get the equipment, they keep it until you hand everything back. This made me feel uneasy.

Other than that it's a wonderful way to spend a rainy day in NYC.

If you have interest on modern art, MoMA is the one of the best place you have to visit all around the world. There are constant exhibitions and special exhibitions for a time period. Do not forget the visiting upper level to see the guest artist of your visited time. There is a MoMA shop across the street which is also so nice to see interesting products.

I spent over two hours at the Museum of Modern Art in New York viewing the excellent exhibits of work by Paul Gauguin and Lygia Clark. I had not seen Gauguin's woodcuts or sculptures before, and this unusual exhibit has many woodcut prints and sculptures, as well as paintings. The explanations near the works of art were helpful, and I heard part of a tour guide's analysis of Gauguin's art, which was also helpful. Lygia Clark is a twentieth-century Brazilian artist whose work is not well-known in the United States. She did experimental sculptures and paintings. She used her art for therapy also. People can interact with some of Clark's works, which is unusual. I thoroughly enjoyed my afternoon at MOMA.
